Their reasoning was - because the puck was already shot and traveling towards the net before the whistle, it's a good goal. If the shot was taken after the whistle, then no goal.

lol that's so fucking NHL like. That's not how the rule works, as Jets have been burned by that a few times in the past.

Sounds like bullshit to me. The whistle affects every player on the ice, if you hear the whistle after the puck is shot it changes how you react to things. That's like counting a goal after the final buzzer because the puck was shot before the horn sounded.

I'm pretty sure the Leafs have had a goal scored like that called back pretty recently.
