I read that story, and the way the victim himself describes it makes me scream "the guy is into you". Like, if I went out on a bro-date and my bro started doing the things this guy is describing Spacey do, I would immediately think he was trying to get laid...with me. Maybe I'm too cynical, but holy cow nowadays I feel like you can see his intentions coming from a mile away. To wake up blind sided by it...idk. I wonder if that's just a by-product of the times...

I was 16 when I had a gay man hit on me, but at that point I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say I could be mistaken for legal. He did it the same way as described in the article with the hand on my thigh, frequent embraces, etc. I knew what he wanted, and I let him down gently. He took it well, and we moved on; not like I ever saw him again though. He was the (young) friend of a friend of my mom. Maybe kids in Hollywood have it different and don't see the same social cues I do.

There was a vox podcast after the HW stuff came out that touched on this. Wish I could remember specifically which episode it was; it was probably the HW one though, or the one right after it.

You could absolutely see this from the other side as to why Spacey might think he was ok to jump on the sofa with the guy. He is an ongoing acquaintance, and they spent a fun night out together. He was flirting with him, putting his hands on him in ways you don't just do with your 'bros', embracing him frequently, and this was with a person he chatted with from time to time. If he tried to kiss him at the end of the date you probably wouldn't even be surprised; you definitely wouldn't be if they were both of the opposite sex. So why, when the guy sleeps over Spaceys house after a wonderful evening, is he surprised to find spacey sleeping next to him? Creepy as shit to be fair, and you wouldn't call him back for a second date, but if you make the victim a female you can see why Spacey might have taken the evening to mean something else then what the victim saw.

To make it more relevant for you Day, if a female you just wined and dined and had a great date with decided to sleep over, would you not think that you might be getting some? Or at the least get some cuddles?

I think it was Ezra who told the analogy, and obviously he did a better job at it then I did; using Trump as an example of all people. He made quite the compelling case that you can see why Trump (Spacey) took the events to mean something different and thought he had the ok to try and take it to that next level. I'm not saying the victim is at fault, but I am saying that Spacey is not on HW levels and that short of it becoming law that you need to obtain permission prior to any type of sexual contact ever it's going to make misunderstandings of this nature endemic.

And I say misunderstanding in regards to the inappropriate touching of another person. Dude is still fucked for trying to do so with a 14 year old.
