Appropos of nothing really, I think it's really fucking amazing how lead-poisoned a full two+ generations of American children were (especially the later boomers and all of Gen-X, along with the early millennials). The stats on this are just fucking jaw-dropping.
It's also really impressive how 25 years of remediation efforts (and, well, time really) have helped immensely. Lead was banned in gasoline in 1990 (full effects by 1995) and banned in paint in 1976. I just think of the crime waves from the 70's until the 90's, the disparate punishments heaped upon black people, racism in general, and how it might have gone differently if everyone from policymakers to criminals and everyone in between wasn't unknowingly fucking brain-ravaged by toxic metals.
