That's the thing, though. They don't hate them. They just hate the insinuation of being "like them" via support.

Well, it's been my long standing belief that your average republican continually votes against their own self-interest with their candidate/policy choices. And this was before they started elevating crackpots like Trump and Moore.

More specific to the conversation, I figure there are few branches I anticipated. The first is that those offended by the connection put their proverbial money where their mouth is and reform both the party and image, either by not voting for the pedophile/molester/racist/etc. or earnestly considering the other-party counterpart if they're not in the all-or-nothing camp. I'd say this is a sort of the, "All the evil has to do to win is for good men to nothing" sort of logic. Perhaps the worst they're guilty of is thinking, "Well, this doesn't apply to me, so it's not a problem!" but that obviously puts into question their empathy toward others since politics is very much about things affecting others.

The second branch is someone just jumping to Franken in the typical whataboutism, of which I don't live in MN so my vote doesn't matter either way. Conversely, he's actually owning up to his misdeeds and we'll know whether or not there is turnaround in his case next time his seat is up. Nonetheless, if the argument is he should be forced to resign, barring criminal indictment, the obvious tangent is then that Trump should also be doing the same thanks to the pussygrab.mov and however many accusers he's got tallied up by now. Franken's attempts at repentance aside, I'm not so much interested in entertaining the hypocrisy of one side letting something slide if it's their own, while the other gets torches and pitchforks. Basically, be willing to treat equally and fairly or GTFO.

The third branch is people just not being educated enough to know what they're voting for or not. I point to the self-interest thing with the joke of DeVoss handling Education for us nowadays, but it's really something that's been ebbing away at our society for much longer with inadequate education funding, school consolidations, lack of teachers, and lack of incentive for people to become teachers themselves. I think we'd tend to agree that ignorance begets prejudice, and sometimes people just don't know they're ignorant. This ignorance fed into people believing Trump would resurrect coal or other promises for the working poor that simply haven't come to fruition and show no signs of doing so in this first year. We know damn well he isn't draining the swamp and things like this recent tax plan only emphasize who his party is really looking out for.

But yeah, if someone wants to identify republican and say they either support Trump and his ilk or don't condemn them for their antics, well, what am I supposed to think? In some cases I may feel bad for them, sure. Of course, if they're the epitome of The Deplorables, there ain't no fucks to give for their feefees. They should be all about the tough love in this case, right?

How many people do you think voted for Trump solely to give identity politics/right think etc the middle finger despite it coming back around to bite them in the ass? If I implied it was the sole factor, then I certainly didn't mean to. I mean, Hillary opposition was littered with stuff like she's gonna die in office, start WW3 with Russia, take our guns, only cares about Wall Street, and other bullshit spin that succeeded in hoodwinking moderates and emboldening rightists. Even their precious emails scandal would've caught Powell and Rice under the same legal umbrella some would want pursued (aka treason), but you tend not to see them rallying for that because one of their own.

Dems aren't perfect, but they at least seem more interested in pursuing various progressive agendas. Their primary roadblock is, and has been, lacking control. The 2 years we had from 08 to 10 wasn't enough, with GOP foot dragging playing a factor. Still, I'd say the resistance we're seeing in the repeal of Obamacare despite that being a warcry shows a mix of approval for what Obama tried to do while being scared shitless of what the Rs want to (not) do. So, maybe we were onto something.

Arguments in the last 8 years have included Obamacare death panels, bitching about the debt ceiling (That republicans suddenly don't care about now surprisingly enough), the whole shenanigans with Obama's birth certificate (He's not a legitimate president). Then you have right wing news orgs calling Obama a muslim (Clearly not but that motivates their religious base) to a point where I still see this bullshit on my facebook feed.



People voted for Trump because he was touted as a populist by right media who was giving a middle finger to the republican establishment. Sprinkle in the racism he spewed and you get the fanatic fanbase cultivated by groups like GamerGate (r/kotakuinaction), 4chan (/pol/), Militant Groups (3%ers), and god knows what else.

20+ years of fucking Roger Aile's brain child and you have a way of pushing out a cult-like ideology to the masses. Hell Sinclair's been cleared to buy up even more shit.

I hate mtglion more than this drama, he is the shovelware of MTG content and regurgitates any and all topics posted on other websites to youtube. Side rant I know, but the drama isnt anything new its basically the same guy that comes up every year or two and stirs the pot over something hes done. The person in question used to be the most prominent youtuber for MTG, but has long since been overshadowed by other youtubers and I feel most of his derivative talking points are to find his own niche in the community rather than appeal to everyone and rake in the big subscriber counts that the newcomers have accrued.
