Oppression olympics is unrelated really.
A focused message is simply more effective than a broad one, that's true regardless of the domain.

Alright, this is my last say on the matter. I have too much to get done today. With that said:
Men, those of you who have been catcalled, raise your hands.
Women, those of you who have been catcalled, raise your hands.
Men, those of you who have been terrified of walking down a dark alley specifically for fear of being raped, raise your hands.
Women, ditto.
Etc.
That's why #MeToo is about women, in a nutshell. Those are just examples; the problem is far deeper, but they're two easy flashpoints to reference. Have men ever been catcalled, or afraid to walk down a dark alley? Sure. Is that a systemic issue in America? No.
Look, #MeToo is not just about sexual violence, it's about a culture that promotes sexual violence specifically against women by normalizing it, by excusing it, by setting the bar impressively low for respectful behavior by men in certain industries, etc. If you can't understand that, I've got nothing left to help you get there. Male victims of sexual assault suffer just as much for a whole host of different reasons, but this is about systemic gender-based harassment and violence targeted toward women. It is not about sexual harassment or assault as a general issue.
Anyway, how many of you clamoring about how unjust it is that male voices are being drowned out have ever devoted any of your time and effort toward assisting male victims of sexual violence? If the answer is "not me," then why do you suddenly feel so strongly about it now?
I think the only person here getting upset here is you Yuri.
I mean I'm constantly furious.

Fair enough, but is this increasing your furiosity or just maintaining it at standard levels?
My commentary elsewhere involved a relation of empathy, having a lot of sisters and seeing how they've been treated over time. As well as other female friends. I'd brought up times where I'd tried to call out bad behavior, where those in power would sometimes just brush it as boys being boys, it's just the internet, or whatever, while others would turn a blind eye to I guess one would call the repercussions of snitching. While I never implicitly had fear of someone trying to grab my balls or stick something up my ass (one of my few perks as a 6' tall farmboy), I still had instances of things of mine getting stolen or broken. Whether or not that further influenced things while dealing with such people later on, I couldn't say for sure, but I don't believe it ever did me any favors.
As Darus pointed out, male victims suffer in absolute silence for a host of reasons.
I don't believe including male victims in the movement significantly detracts from the focus on the widespread acceptance of abusive behavior towards women.
I do believe that explicitly excluding them contributes to the problem of male victims being afraid to speak out of fear of not being taken seriously.
I was hoping when I clicked this that I would be able to revel in the SJW swampland being burned to the ground. Little did I know y'all would take the opportunity to bring it here instead.
I've been sexually harassed and assaulted by men and women at the workplace and in public. I'm not sure it's weird that I was not upset or bothered when it happend.
How much change (in this realm specifically) do we think society can experience at once?
I mean, Harvey feigned rehab for a whole week. And still, he has a different recollection for each accuser.
It's not really weird. Well not weird in the sense that it's fairly common. It's kind of ingrained into our society. Some break the norms and take it seriously but outside of worst cases that tends to meet dismissal at best.
This is a seriously underused word. I applaud you good sir.
On a side note just got what I assume is a catfish chatting me up on wwf. That's way worse than catcalling
Yes, women are a monolithic hive mind seeking to supplant the patriarchy and deny men all power.
Because they want to raise awareness about the unique power issues inherent in the dynamic between men and women, so that when women are verbally harassed, or have brazen and unwanted sexual advances made on them, they must inherently fear for their physical well-being.
Sexual assault against men is incredibly underreported and an important issue, to be sure. I've seen several men successfully use the #MeToo tag, such as the former employee of Naughty Dog.
I'd say not to deny them a platform, though because so many of you don't understand why women's safety and careers are uniquely imperiled by sexual assault / harassment, maybe it is important to devote the #MeToo campaign wholly to women's experiences.
The summation of your argument is that more women than men on average are harassed more frequently than men. Are we basing what causes we choose to take on solely off of their numerical relevance? Are we so incapable as a society and country that we cannot focus on two movements at once, not even a movement that is directly related to the movement in focus for fear of muddying the message? Can we not speak of taxation, gun regulation, sexual abuse, medical insurance, and foreign policy all at once? Why must one demographic be doomed to silence for the furtherance of another when both could benefit from the same discussion at the same time? It is not right that we ask any victim to step aside for the sake of another, nor is it right for people here to argue here in favor of such under the goodness of strategy. If the singular focus of issues in order to conquer them one at a time rather than broach many subjects all at once is a strategy than it is a very poor one and should be spurned for it's bottle necking of progress.
Panda what reality do you exist in? If people could focus on more than one topic at a time than Donald J. Trump wouldn't been drowned in his shit.
One where I expect too much and relegate myself to shitposting out of disappointment.
Spoiler: show
i think this thread is a great microcosm of why any given movement needs to stay on point in order to avoid being derailed
as soon as y'all started debating whether men should be using #metoo, that became the focal point of the discussion, instead of how fucking commonplace sexual assault is, like what the message is supposed to be.
because people love to argue. this forum is built on it. it's hard to argue raw stats, so they get glossed over. but the whole point of #metoo is that those stats arent just stats, they're your girlfriends, wives, mothers, daughters. And yes, the men in your lives too. But the idea is to focus on the women right now because no one can realistically argue with "assaulting my mom is bad"
not that i really see any actual end-game with these types of movements; shit's already illegal. just saiyan, from the perspective of a guy who spends most of his 'net time watchin you lot argue, that's how it looks.
edit: i should add, it's not like anyone's gonna call out a guy for using #metoo. or not anyone worth listening to, anyway. pretty fucking hard to argue against "assaulting me is bad" too. just that the focus should be on listening to these people, not arguing over who gets to use the hashtag. and the way to do that is to not encourage the sort of person who would argue over who gets to use a hashtag. which is everyone. tl;dr: don't feed the trolls, and everyone is a troll.
It's pretty clear that Evilore himself never subscribed to the feminism and progressive ideals that NeoGaf projected, and merely co-opted them once his userbase did, probably to help differentiate his brand.
If you look at his post history, he's always been a pompous creep with a non-existent idea of sexual boundaries. I mean, he posted revenge porn of his exes.
While this is an unfortunate situation, I think it shows the consistency of the community's ideals that the moderation team and masses abandoned him in unison. Of course, it's easy for GG idiots to pervert allegedly progressive individuals' faults into some wholesale ideological hypocrisy of the left, because the default state of being a GG-er is disrespecting women.
Excuse me, it's about ethics in gaming.
