‘The Predator’ actress Olivia Munn outed her castmate as a registered sex offender. His scene was cut.
Whelp that's it boys. Can't work in film if you've been convicted. No wonder everyone tried to settle and use NDAs
Convicted of grooming and molesting a 14 year old.
Not a hill to die on.
Wasn't exactly defending the man himself or his actions. Just saying like even the worst of criminals still need jobs after they serve their sentences. Also while still bad the conviction wasn't molestation was "risk of injury to a child and enticing a minor by computer."
That said I do find the role they casted him was particularly ironic (was of a overly persistent jogger hitting on Munn)... and maybe not on accident lol
Striegel said he did not have to audition for his part in the movie. “The character I played was named after a mutual friend of ours, and it seemed a good fit,” he wrote in an email.
The actor and the girl also allegedly had physical contact, which included “kissing, touching [the minor’s] breast over her clothing, rubbing her legs and stroking her neck,” according to a 2009 arrest warrant affidavit obtained by the L.A. Times. Citing email exchanges, the affidavit alleged that Striegel told the teenager he wanted to pursue a sexual relationship with her and asked her to keep it a secret.![]()
Zet please have some compassion of all the injustices in the world the guy that groomed and fondled his 14 year old cousin getting a bit role cut from a Shane Black film is clearly the one upon which to focus
ok sounds good lets fight pollution fam.
I say they didn't go far enough, should have pulled the entire movie, and Shane Black should have been punished personally by being made to only work on buddy cop films for the rest of forever. The important part is Predator isn't released.
Not arguing about this specific case but in general if someone is going to be ostracized to that point why even let them out of prison? Don't we as a society believe in reform and ones abilities to re-enter society after paying for their crime? There are certain crimes when committed essentially end your life. There are very few chances for someone like that to redeem themselves. It seems counter to the ultimate goal of prison to then continue to punish someone after they have done time even if they are behaving properly and aren't doing anything illegal.
Certain crimes carry societal costs beyond jail.
Kid touching is one of em.
Yeah but why not just give them the death penalty then? Or why not make it life in prison? Pushing someone out into the world then doing everything you can to step on them increases the chances they lash out violently or resort to extreme measures. Just get it over with if the crime is so severe they need to suffer for life.
We won't be able to justify capital punishment for someone like that, either morally or legally. The other option is to try to convince society as a whole, across the world, that a child molester out of prison deserves another chance. I'm not sure either one is possible.
yes because not being allowed to have a brief role in a Shane Black film is equivalent to being killed
fondle a 14 year old girl people are gonna think you're a piece of shit for the rest of your life, that's just the way the cookie crumble. doesn't mean the state gets to kill you.
Honestly not being in the new Predator was probably doing him a favor.
Child molesters ruin a child/young person's ENTIRE life.
Why shouldn't theirs be ruined completely also?
My point is that if we are going to ruin their entire life (which I don't think is a bad thing) why not ruin it in a way that is safe for everyone else? If you push someone to the extremes chances are high they are going to do some drastic shit again. I don't want those people back in society when they feel helpless and hopeless.
