I'm saying if you are the victim of a crime you should file a police report so that the criminals have to go to court and be held accountable for their crime. Why is this undesirable? Why do you not want criminals to be held accountable for their crimes?

So every child/teenager/woman with a man in a position of authority over their lives who ever left a sexual assault with a threat against themselves/their families/their jobs or the age-old axiom "no one will believe you" because the attacker KNOWS THAT IS TRUE that finds the courage, especially at this point in time when there is a wave of momentum crashing in that direction, to finally find their voice, should be punished and, in your words, shamed - shamed! - for speaking up. You've voiced the opinion that people disagreeing with this are supporting sexual predators.

So this time, what I want you to do, is I want you to go look in the mirror. I want you to take a good, hard look at it.

Ok so what's your fix that results in women reporting their attackers immediately instead of 40 years after the fact allowing their attackers to continue preying on others? My thinking was that women respond extraordinarily well to social pressure so we apply social pressure that incentivizes reporting their attackers right away so as to minimize the number of people victimized.

We could start by making it evident that men in positions in power actually aren't above the law. Honorable mention to not propping up "boys will be boys" behavior.

Unfortunately, stuff like this isn't like robbing a bank where you'll find a sack of cash in the thief's hideout. Barring physical evidence like a DNA sample with rape or hand print bruising matching the accused, a lot of it is going to be he said, she said, and with our court system being the way it is, you're going to have reasonable doubt without said forms of proof. And that's where those with the power win because they can hire the lawyers for drawn out legal battles or make good on threats that basically equate to making the average woman's life miserable.

The only thing multiple people coming forward really does is foster a sense of credibility. However, it also allows false positives in the event you just don't happen to like the accused and think they should go down. Again, this can favor the accused without evidence, unless you're the sort that happily forms opinions without supporting information.

Nice to know one of these women did the right thing and can escape punishment.

For real though, the next time any of you see something like a piece of legislation that will leave millions without access to healthcare or people advocating military conflicts that will affect 10s of thousands or people exploiting victims of war or natural disasters... anything where you find yourself asking "How could they do that?" I want you all to remember this exchange with Gogglehead and his complete and utter lack of ability to see things from any perspective than his own and realize there are millions like him, and that many of them are in positions of power over thousands of lives.
