I've watched both seasons multiple times due to my 11 year old daughter. Ive also seen all of beyond Stranger Things. People are looking for anything to be to outraged about. I can't tell anyone how they feel is wrong, but I can tell them they are wrong.

In general art should reflect reality, and tweens/teens being intimate with each other is reality. I think the societal loss of defacto not allowing storytelling to depict or explore reality is generally significantly worse than the consequences(a child may feel uncomfortable or may feel pressured or may not understand the consequences occasionally).

That may sound callous, but ignore for a moment "think of the children!" knee-jerk reactions and realize we live in a society where we accept that thousands of people die every year because we allow people to drive cars(among many other examples), because we as a society decided it was worth those terrible consequences to the greater whole; not allowing children to participate in art does a lot of damage for very little gain when compared to these other societal level decisions we make.

That said, in cases where the child is pressured, uncomfortable, etc, that is obviously wrong, and action should be taken on a case by case basis, and we should encourage responsible use of children in film. But I don't think it's worth considering banning the practice(whether at a legal or industry level) because of bad actors, improve the process rather than throw it out. Children can't consent and rely on responsible adults, but children's inability to consent doesn't mean we never let them make decisions for themselves.

I basically agree, the money is the "tricky" part. I don't know that there's a really solid solution, though I think some party that represents the children separate from the film union/guilds/parents may be a good start(you generally can't trust parents in these situations either, for same reason; money).

I feel like people are forgetting what being that age is like. Even if kissing the other actor was the thing she most wanted to do, she probably still would've been weird about it because kissing anyone for any reason is weird when you haven't gotten used to it.
