See I used to pay Kobe, but now I pay Lebron
I think the narrative would be different today for obvious reasons, but people mostly moved on from the Kobe issue because the consensus was that it was consensual up until he wanted anal and then after the fact she wanted money (which is why she dropped out as a witness after a settlement payment).
perhaps to a Lakers fan but personally I would be ashamed of peddling such a garbage narrative, particularly were I professionally dedicated to the enshrined function of truth and justice, but then I am easily shamed.
Bryant's alleged victim claimed only the kissing was consensual, following which he grabbed her by the throat, bent her over a chair, and raped her. she had noticeable bruising on her neck, vaginal lacerations that a nurse accustomed to examining sex crimes determined to be the result of rape, and two witnesses in her mother and coworker claiming she told them of the rape before going to police. the DA quickly determined there was enough evidence to file a formal charge, and naturally the defense team responded by attacking the accuser's credibility. they quickly established she had the audacity to have had sex with a Caucasian male either shortly before or shortly after the incident, that she had twice attempted to commit suicide in high school, and that she was on psychoactive medication following a hospitalization for depression. and as one does with all lying mentally ill sluts these details and the accuser's name were instantly leaked to and published by the press, at which point she began receiving death threats and hate mail. following this she refused to testify in open court, and settled privately, one of the terms of the settlement being Bryant issuing a public statement stating he was sorry, that he now understood the victim did not feel the encounter was consensual, and that he was not paying her money.
as with most such encounters only the two involved know what truly occurred that night, but the evidence was more substantial than most such cases, and people moved on not because of whatever drivel you've constructed in your head to allow you to cheer for a probable rapist, but because the girl's reputation was destroyed by a 2004 public that had scant empathy for the victims of powerful men.
I acknowledged that the narrative would probably be greatly different today, and the effectiveness in victim blaming tactics has/had a large part to do with that.
I remark, without condoning or condemning (I was 13 and had a poor understanding of sexism and sexual violence and have not revisited the case since), based on my understanding of how his fans (both in Los Angeles and outside) deal with the allegations. Which probably is very much a result of how the case was covered (i.e. how receptive the media was to eat the defense's narrative) at the time.
I personally don't understand people's idolization of athletes as anything aside from exemplars of their craft (and in fact athletic greatness actually seems to trade off actively with being a good person).
A lot of it definitely had to do with the Media and weak rape shield laws. They really went after her sexual history especially after they found another mans pubic hair and semen on her underwear when she did the rape kit but she claims to have just grabbed a dirty pair before going to the hospital which made people feel she was lying about that. Also there were some inconsistent stories of her bragging about the encounter at a party three days before the charges were announced. One good thing to come out of the whole thing is that Rape Shield laws were strengthened a bit and now the name of the victim cannot be said during the preliminary trial hearing which is what Kobe's Lawyers did 6 times. Unfortunately because of this, I still remember what her name was cause it was blasted all over the news.
God nobody talking about Mr. Wynn?
Mr. Wears no underwear during a massage and exposes his dick and balls.
