I didn't realize there were theatres that didn't do that shit for Star Wars.
Prequel Trilogy, the theatre rerelease of the original trilogy, and every one of the Disney releases it happens every time on opening night no matter where I was living.
Saw it yesterday and I found it boring with a few cool scenes. It also felt really, really long. I don't think I'll ever see it again.
Did you guys have a shit ton of clapping in your movie?
Lucky for me it was dead silent, and that's how I like my movie experience.
The dude next to me just kept sticking his palms up and his hands out every time something that didn’t make sense would pop up. And it was hilarious because he was doing it a lot. No talking. Just hands. So funny.
Posting this now before I go through and read comments. Movie had a handful of good moments but for the most part this movie was TERRIBLE. They couldn't go 3 minutes without some terribly unfunny joke which ruined about 90% of every scene they attempted humor with.
Sadly, I'm realizing as a 33 year old man these movies are no longer made for me. I'm sure kids will love the shit out of it, though. Star Wars needs JJ Abrams back--and fast.
I´m 34 and I really enjoyed it despite some of the humor falling flat and obvious pacing issues. Also I really don´t get why everybody has/had a fucking hard on for Snoke. Like...would you really want to see Snoke as the ultimate evil for the final battle? Like...this old ass skinny hunchback mfer fighting awkwardly with a lightsaber and wielding force lightning? No thanks. No matter how strong in the force he is it´d be just awkward as fuck.
Is the rule of two still in effect, cause if so, Kylo killing Snoke is just par for the course.
93% on critic reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, 53% on viewer reviews. Let the roasting begin.
Movie had its good parts, and some plot elements that didn't go the way I wanted, but it wasn't terrible or as bad as some here have said.
Liked: Kamikaze light speed rebel ship
Finally seeing the imperial elite guards in action
Kylo not turning good like everyone expected
The reveal about the high society that profits from both sides of the war. A bit too much like real life, but interesting regardless.
Poe's character development
That it wasn't a remake of The Empire Strikes Back
The new ships. Dreadnaught was a beast
Luke dying on his own terms
Puppet Yoda who acted like OG trilogy Yoda
Disliked: Mary Sue Rey, again
No character growth for Rey & Finn
No big powerful Luke moment. Projection was cool, I guess?
Leia's fake out death scene. Reminded me of the Superman in space scene from BvS. I want to see a remake of that scene with Leia's eyes opening bright red with the dramatic music. She should've passed peacefully after Luke died or at the same time. (Rey looking outside of the ship and seeing her clothes on the ground, IDK.) She didn't film any scenes for ep 9. They said they wouldn't use CGI. Guess an off screen death it is?
Snoke's death. I understand we got no Palpatine origin until the prequels, but it still would've been nice to know a bit of back story on how the Sith rose to power post Vader/Sideous. Felt like such wasted potential on that character.
lolPhasma again
BB8 ex machina
How much of a joke they made General Hux. The villains of the galaxy are now two squabbling psychopaths with a sibling like rivalry. Which kills my hype for episode 9
Pointless mutiny plot with the Rebels
No Knights of Ren
Build up to Rey's parents going no where
Forced romance between Rose & Finn

Y'all motherfuckers be salty as all hell.
I like the movie.
I wish you guys would say what you wanted in this movie instead. Outside of some of the forced comedy and the whole casino arc of the movie I really don't understand the hate.
Only issue I had with the movie was that casino scene solely because it seemed to drag on way too long. I know what they were going for, but it kind of bogged everything else down. More Snoke back story would have been nice but it isn't a huge deal to me.
Rey's power's didn't bother me much. Force power wise, all she really did in this one was force pull lightsabers prior to the boulder-lifting at the end. Being able to take on the elite guard was fine in my eyes since she would already have fighting experience due to surviving on Jakku... though I suppose she took to fighting with a lightsaber a little quickly?
I really liked how they played the force visions of Rey/Ben/Snoke. Snoke saw the vision of Ben igniting a lightsaber for the kill, but because of Ben's new resolve and Snoke's overconfidence he assumed the vision was of Rey's death. And Rey and Ben both saw a vision of the other turning either to the light or the dark, which I took as both of them seeing the same vision of fighting together against the elite guard.
The movie felt similar to the plot of SWTOR's Jedi Knight story. It's starting to feel one-dimensional.
Edit: All of the characters felt like they could be written for a SWTOR counterpart. Rey = JK, Kylo = Sith, Finn = Trooper. Idk, just felt like a bloated movie.
I hate storytelling that relies on people not communicating, especially in cases where there is no reason for it, so the casino arc and everything around it just bugged me. If the commander had just told Poe what the plan was, none of that would have happened, and they'd have more survivors.
If they had cut out the whole casino arc, had everything else essentially happen (Kylo could have just detected Leia waking up or something), and then set up a standoff a la Helm's Deep from The Two Towers (which would admittedly require the Rebels to have a bit more supplies), I would have enjoyed it so much more. And it which would have contrasted well with the slowness of Rey's arc.
it would’ve been better if they somehow had the “elite hacker” find his way into the main ship which then somehow got Finn on board Kylo’s destroyer so that whole sequence could still take place. Cut the entire casino bullshit out. Even the token Asian actress. God her character was awful.
I agree with everything you said. The casino was by far the weakest part of the story, and honestly could have been removed.
Besides what was just mentioned, Star Wars is generally supposed to be large in scope, and not the space opera equivalent of the OJ White Bronco chase.
