And if yoda was able to strike a tree with lightning as a ghost luke can have a lighsaber battle as a ghost idc... fukking biggest movie franchise of all time and arguable the most popular movie character ever and he got almost no screen time between both films

I liked the movie too but i wanted more luke

Snoke can force project/connect Rey and Kylo multiple times with seemingly no ill effect yet Luke dies force projecting himself. I guess you can argue Snoke was a godlike Sith and Luke had barely reconnected with the force at the time? idk lol

Well new RLM review is out and I think Rich hits the nail on the head by saying that Star Wars is creatively bankrupt. It's same shit over and over, inexperienced Jedi going against the evil empire. If you expect anything else you're in a wrong place.

I agree with them that this is a problem this movie has. At the end, you don't know what it supposed to happen for the next movie, when this movie felt like the third one in a trilogy. And despite rian trying to take it in a new direction, Rich is right that there isn't a lot you can do with Star Wars.

I'm ultimately just afraid that JJ might just make a third movie that is basically a reskin of return of the jedi. I really, really hope not. But i also don't see what the new conflict will be if it's not about the sith vs. jedi or rey and kylo. I hope they can surprise me, because i appreciate the movie trying to start something new and i would like to see the third movie continue this evolution into something different.

Also, the comments section in that video is pretty funny because most people there seem to be blaiming JJ and accusing him of being a hack. They're saying he never had any ideas as to who rey's parents or snoke really was and just put them there just because, basically forcing ryan to occam's razor that shit out of the movie.

iirc Luke never actually clashes lightsabers with Kylo. That's all part of the projection (and one of the 'tips' he's not really there as he is using Anakinls and Rey has it (well the broken pieces).

He's probably dead on with the statement that next movie will be "now we need to stop Kylo, Rey will have a lightsaber fight with him, the end." Sounds exactly like something Disney would do.
The Star Wars universe is just extremely limited, it's just a backdrop for cool and flashy shit to happen. They never built it in a interesting world. One of my issues with TFA was that it was just rebels vs empire and everything else was disposable trash planets. For as many creatures there are we never learn anything about their culture or any other ways of thinking. It's not like in TSOIaF where you go to Esos and it's a realized world that brings new perspectives and elements into the story and makes them collide with what characters from Westeros who travel there think. We're just hit with the same elements that worked in previous movies arranged in a different pattern, there's no new discoveries, revelations, or shake ups in the end. They just mask rehashed shit as something slightly different yet not too far from what invokes nostalgia. As bad as prequels were I appreciated Lucas efforts of trying to make this world inhabited by someone.

Makes you wonder how and if Kathleen Kennedy & Disney will approach the next movie any differently. Financial and critical success, but will fans turn out as much for the next film? I feel they'll show up, but it won't match the initial hype for this and TFA. One could look to the reception from the prequels, but they weren't owned by Disney at the time either.

The only reason there is such fan backlash is because of the expanded universe lore. Peeps thought Luke was going to pull Star Destroyers out of the sky and sit and were pissed because he didn't.

Y'all played right into this movie so well it's amazing you missed the commentary. You have this idea of the legends and how awesome they are and missed both Rose and Luke teaching you that legends are neither as grand as you think they are nor as important to the outcome of the story.

You're just so stuck on the name Star Wars that you refuse to let anything pass your smugfart sensors if it doesn't have Mara Jade or "as compelling as these other movies of which only one was really good and the other is a cult hit".

Take your damn nostalgia goggles off. These are miles better than the prequel movies.



Well, the truth is people went in with expectations that weren't met and that's fine. You didn't like the movie.

That doesn't mean it failed to be good. Half the good movies today were lauded as terrible when they first came out.

I think her character was the most wasted.

It would have been great if Leia was lost in the battle or rendered comatose until Luke returned, Ackbar sacrificed himself to save the rebels with the capital ship, and her character took over as the new blood stepping into Leia's shoes and trying to inspire hope.

Attack of the clones still has a 650~ mil box office compared to the 1 billion of Phantom Menace so quality does make a little bit of a difference.

TFA and TLJ are on different levels and benefit a lot more from rewatches too I bet.
