This game's learning curve is crazy. All through my first playthrough I struggled. As soon as I felt like I was getting real good, the game would introduce a new enemy/mechanic that just wrecked me all over again. The game left me feeling like I was always improving but always facing growing threats. It seemed frustrating in the present but in retrospect it was a great experience. As first playthroughs go, it was leaps and bounds more crushingly difficult and challenging than any Soulsborne game.
The second playthrough seems to offer a completely different experience for me; that of being a complete utter badass who ruthlessly rips and tears through his enemies. It's great going up against these enemies who had given me so much trouble in the past and just annihilate them with the skills I learned. (I wanted to say "mastered" but i doubt im even close to that still)
I made it from start to Gyoubu. Fought every enemy along the way- even beat the first Encounter with Genichiro- without resting at a single statue. Stopped there and went into the memory where I'm about to fight Juzou the Drunkard and the only time I've died was when the red eyes ogre managed a grab on me and threw me off the cliff.
