Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (PC/PS4/XB1) - March 22, 2019

I feel like I am terrible at this game.

Got to the point right before the red eye Ogre- when the old woman gives you the bell- and then went back in time. Was doing alright but absolutely couldnt beat the Drunkard dude. Decided to leave that alone and go back to where I was and defeated the Ogre quite easily. Samurai dude immediately after gave me trouble. I beat him, but it felt really cheap, using hit and run tactics. Health upgrade and another healing item will make Drunkard a bit easier but I'm gonna stay on the path I'm on until I got another wall.

Keep at it, i stopped playing on NG+4, i’m right at the end to get the final ending, but i’ve been grinding skill points to get the all skills achievement and it’s the only 2 achievements left from a platinum on steam.

You’ll def get better as you go, but do not treat this game like dark souls. Dodging can get you so far, but you’re going to reach a huge wall where the game completely tells you you’ve been playing wrong. Parry parry parry parry.

Parries are how I play dark souls lol

I actually had an easier time with the horse boss by stopping trying to parry him and plain old blocking him instead lol.
Bow with more heal, health, and attack, I deal like Drunken boss shouldnt be much trouble. I think I'll be holding off for awhile for that headless guy I found though and go back to him waaay later lol.

Yeah there comes a point where you realize you need to overpower enemies and once you adapt your playstyle to play more aggressively ,yet methodical, the gameplay makes total sense. Happened to me midway on one of the boss fights and that's what I truly started to appreciate how the gameplay works.

Man, this game splits off in so many ways. So many different options, I dont know where I want to go first.

Edit: the way with the skeleton sorcerer thing that shoots giant purple flaming skeleton fireballs does not seem like the right way.

It is and isn't in a dark souls kinda way.

Echoing everyone else, once you get a feel for the game it becomes a bit of a dance, but the general flow is to attack until you get "deflected" then prepare to deflect/dodge yourself and continue. Madam Butterfly is generally the one who forces you to learn the combat flow.

Alright. Made it to the rooftop fight in Ashina. Tried it once. Didnt seem all that hard, though I'm sure he's hiding some kind of bullshit. Only did the fight once and backed out after that to get as far as I can in every other area I think I can and I think I did that- almost.

I have the Seven Spears guy and the ninja dude in the well to beat still, the 2 Headless, Snake Eyes Mcshooter in the valley, and the purple fireball sorcerer guy in the dungeon area to beat. Though fireball dude could be hiding another area I can access.

Having fun with it, though some of these bosses are absolutely infuriating until you know exactly how to deal with them. Doesnt seem to be a whole lot of options in how you deal with bosses unlike Dark Souls, which has to cater to the possibility you could be several different classes/playstyles. That or I still just really suck at this game lol

There are options you can use but I think the limited nature of your powers means you can't rely on them a lot. They all take (I forgot the actual name) paper to use for tools or sword skills and there are a few items you can use but yeah, unlike dark souls you can't really change your playstyle to be something like tool focused or ranged even though you can use those things to absolutely fuck a lot of enemies and even bosses lol.

It's more like certain enemies are super exploitable with some tools or techniques rather than using them to change how you play overall.

Currently in Mibu Forest. I'm right at the area where the lady(?) Is playing the string instrument in the big clearing which I'm guessing is most likely a boss fight. Cleared out all the minibosses except for Headlesses and purple skull fireball dude- as far as I'm aware, which equates to like 3.5 health upgrades I think and 8 health drinks.

this was the hardest fight in the game for me except maybe the final boss. walled on the fucker for four fucking hours before the game clicked and i stopped trying to play it like Dark Souls.

I'm pretty sure I had more wipes on him than the final boss. The only boss I wiped more than that guy was on Demon of Hatred cause he's so different, you have to go back to playing Bloodborne to beat him.

I should save my money right? DS3 is $11.39 on a key site I could waste my money on that instead.

In Sekiro, the enemies respawn but you can more easily skip a lot of them. The combat is quite different, though it's a difference that may be lost on those who arent well versed in From Software combat.

DS3 is way more similar to DS2, so if you really didnt like ds2, I doubt you'll like 3.

GMG has had Sekiro for $36, but they are constantly out of stock. I was bad at DS1 until I wasn't. Just gotta keep at it. Most rewarding games I've ever played. I'll buy this eventually.

I guess here’s a way i put it, Sekiro is more of a precision reaction based souls game than the other souls games. What i mean is that combat is really more based on proper parrying and less dodging/blocking like souls. This is my favorite souls game 1000%, more than DS1 and BloodBorne, and i love all 3 mentioned. The combat is super aggressive but the victories feel the most satisfying, especially when you properly trounce your opponents the way the game is designed for you to do.

I want to get better at these games. Looks like I own Dark Souls prepare to die edition, for some reason that didn't appeal to me. With DS3 being $12 should I snag that or just play DS till I get better? Or straight to this?

Snag it, well worth the $12. DS1 and DS3 play roughly the same except some special weapon specific moves being added. DS3 is a ton more aggressive and faster than DS1 tho. Get used too the basics and fundamentals in 1 imo.

DS3 is going to be easier if just for the ease of life stuff compared to DS1. I prefer 1 over 3 but 3 is a far more balanced and perhaps better overall experience. And as said above, $12 is a really good price for the game.

There are a lot of references to 1 & 2 in DS3 however, so if missing out on all that stuff bothers you, maybe give 1 another shot.

Cool maybe I'll give 1 another go or buy 3 if not just for it being prettier and pick up sekiro if I ever get good.
