    Mortal Engines (Peter Jackson)

    Spoiler: show

One of my favourite Sci-Fi books. This is what Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings, Hobbit) is working on.

The movie is based on a book series, 4 books total, about a post apocalyptic world ~2500 years in the future.

Two millennia ago the Ancients (humans in the 22nd century) destroyed themselves in the Sixty Minute War. The weapons used completely fucked up Earth and caused natural disasters and dried up oceans and left it completely unrecognizable. A lot of technological knowledge was lost after the Sixty Minute War so all modern technology is a sort of Victorian-Era Steampunk. Working Ancient tech, which is much more advanced, is incredibly rare and highly sought after though.

Humans built cities on giant traction wheels and built them up on tiers like a wedding cake. These cities then drove around chasing and stripping smaller roaming towns of resources and enslaving the smaller populations. This has been happening for hundreds of years and food has grown scarce. The first book is set around London.

Main stars are Stephen Lang (Avatar, Into the Badlands) and Hugo Weaving (Matrix, Lord of the Rings).

This looked interesting. Had no idea it was a book series.

I was excited for this when I saw the teaser. Now I am not.

I'm just not feeling it either. Best of luck to Peter and his crew. And I do love some Hugo weaving. But nothing about that trailer makes me want to see this film.

From that trailer it looks like a bad young adult movie which is not something I'd go out and see.

Since I don't know the book, I think the visuals and designs look great for the most part.

The synopsis sounded pretty bad ass, then I got to the part about cities on wheels.

Humanity struggles to rebuild civilization, yet is able to create various mobile towns and metropolises. Okay...

Teaser gave lotsa hype, but yeah, trailer makes me want to stay away. Too many post-apocalyptic/dystopian future movies going around (Hunger Games, Maze Runner, The Giver, Divergent, etc.). Even Fahrenheit 451 sucked balls.

I watched Fahrenheit 451 not knowing there was a book. I couldn’t help but think throughout the entire movie that either the script was piss poor, incredibly bad editing, or a hack job of some book it was based on. Lol

Go watch the b&w movie based on Farenheit 451. It's MST3K bad.

Fahrenheit 451 and The Giver were a requirement in the high/middle (respectively) schools I attended; only reason I knew.

Man Fahreneit 451 was terrible. I watched it because I like both main actors but there was nothing good about that movie.

451 was unfortunate, but at least once I watched that I was able to pretty much forget about it.

Reading the synopsis in the OP, Mortal Engines looks like it would have potential. The problem I'm having now is after this trailer, I've got it stuck in my head that it's just gonna be a Waterworld for the next generation.

Mobile London looks like Minas Tirith on meth out to rape tiny Fury Road vehicles.
    Fuck the haters, looks awesome.

It truly boggles my mind that there are people over the age of 15 that haven't heard of Fahrenheit 451. No wonder the world's fucked.

Saw this today. Decent enough, looks good.
If you gotta pick between this and Spider-Man though, go see Spider-Man.

GF's friend saw this early and give it a giant meh. Said the visuals were insane but the story was shit.

The book wasn't very good so I don't have super high hopes.

Speaking of the new Spooderman, I haven't seen it yet.
