Steel and aluminum tariffs to take effect in 15 days, Mexico and Canada indefinitely exempted.
So, nothing changes, right? Europe will continue to sell their steel to Canada who then resells it to us.
apparently canada and mexico only account for 26%, 16.7% and 9.4% respectively.

What the eff, why would we want to screw over South Korea.
Are we sure Trump knows South and North Korea are different countries? I mean, North Korea was in the winter olympics this year, which was hosted in Pyeongchang. The North Korean capital is Pyongyang. Can Trump really tell the difference? For all we know he thought Korea hosted the Winter olympics in its capital.
honest inquiry, how many of you leftist Bolshevik types are complaining about this measure because it is a Donald Trump proposition? very few of you seem especially warm to the concept of free trade, the TPP and TTIP, for illumination, were mercilessly excoriated here, and a protectionist tariff designed to shield domestic workers from overseas competition would to this observer seem to have generated far less opposition were it coming from a president Sanders or a president Obama.

"I like conflict," Trump said Tuesday, addressing staff turnover at the White House. "I like people with two different points of view. I like watching it, I like seeing it. And I think it's the best way to go."

I wasn't a fan of its corporate giveaways but once I understood its importance to our influence in the Pacific I was on board. Us allowing China to take the lead on dictating Asian trade policies for the foreseeable future is likely a non-zero factor in Xi feeling powerful enough to re-establish a dictatorship.

I just expect his actions to make things better, not worse. If protecting steel workers with tariffs just starts a trade war where everyone else is hurt moreso than steel workers are helped, then maybe we shouldn't be tariffing steel and aluminum. If they took time to make good policy to help steel workers without the rest of the world trying to shaft us cause of it, then sure I can get along with that. But let's not pretend that's what this is. This was short sighted, hastily implemented, and just all around a self inflicted fiasco cause the fat man couldn't keep his mouth shut another couple of weeks when his actual workers could put together a plan to properly roll this out.

We teased him too much about his lack of accomplishments a year in and some lackey pointed out that he can implement tariffs with just an executive order, no congress necessary, and he jumped on it.
Because I guarantee you he didn't know that.
As someone heavily involved in the construction industry - fuck this policy. I'd only be happy if it encouraged more use of heavy timber construction in lieu of concrete/steel construction (re: it won't because stuff). Canada would be going bonkers at the money we'd throw at them.
