It's wild how he has split the left and the right.

Just realized that the last actual thing McCain did in office was voting to explode the deficit in order to greatly enrich rich people, including gutting the estate tax.
He hasn't cast a vote since.

McCain was thoroughly human and imperfect. My agreement with him starts and probably ends at the opposition to torture and potentially on whether Obamacare should be repealed. If we agreed on more than that, he lacked the bravery to buck his party and vote in a way that conveyed it.
If we just look at his voting record, we see someone who basically voted party line for decades (even as his party dramatically changed) and tossed a few standout votes and engaged in a few bipartisan efforts that indicated he might have real principles hiding somewhere in his ever wrinkling shell. Most of pre-2008 McCain maverick behavior can be rationalized by "Arizona man wants to be president."
It is difficult to take the mouthsounds that our elected officials make at face value. McCain, for instance, opposed the ACA repeal on process grounds but was fine with the process-wise very-similar massive Tax cut bill. Did he actually care about process? Looking at his voting history, probably not. It was likely just an excuse that he used a few times to justify the vote that he wanted. Why did he oppose repealing the ACA, then? I hope to read an article answering that question (unwilling to commit to reading a McCain biography) in a decade or so.
That's about my level of dedication to the legacy of John McCain. RIP and with all due respect I honestly hope you are replaced in the Senate by a Democrat.
Arizona GOP keeping it 100 lmao.

“I wonder if it were just a coincidence that Sen McCain released his statement on the kickoff day of Kelli Ward’s bus tour or if it was a plan to take media attention off her campaign,” the staffer wrote. “I’m not saying it was on purpose but it’s quite interesting.”

Hey I guess it's not just Donny who prefers soldiers who don't get captured.

Citations needed did a good quick show on McCain.
I never wished death on him; not knowing his politics in depth on various issues, his most noteworthy political sin I can think of is giving Sarah Palin a microphone.
There’s a part of me that will miss him. Didn’t agree with him on a number of issues, but especially lately he was a partially sane voice in a sea of ludicrousy.
You could argue McCain gave us Trump.
Let's not forget McCain loved his far right base.

Anyone that doesn't say something as round as a beach ball is an edgelord anymore.
McCain the soldier and McCain the politician should be compartmentalized. Sure he was an amazing soldier, but that doesn't matter to me because the thing of greater weight is his political career, and that doesn't deserve very much praise, IMO.
Jimmy Carter is a great guy, but that doesn't affect peoples lives on average like his work in politics did. Big whoop, Bush Jr has a likeable personality at times too. Obviously doesn't mean shit in the grand scheme.
So everyone can praise men like this for obvious deeds, but it be nice if we just saw the forest through the trees instead of through a rose-tinted kaleidoscope. Simultaneously not tossing out retarded labels for people who have shit to say about subjects like McCain would be as nice.

God dayum BG you are roasting this dead man hard today
apparently i got very drunk in Hollywood last night and gave about half a dozen toasts to McCain
assuredly the latter. the dirtbag left cannot see political disagreements, particularly foreign policy ones, in anything other than Manichean moral dichotomies making all who oppose their beliefs not simply wrong but evil, but damn it at least they aren't insincere.
one can argue many stupid things
I’m still bummed I couldn’t land a cozy job with the McCain family.
Dude was super close with Ash Carter and spent many a nights at the Four Seasons getting wasted to stupidly expensive wine. His guys were always mad cool, privately employed, and well paid.
New goal for most of us is to get a private job off Shanahan. Single, absurdly rich, and party’s like a fucking rock star.
Reportedly at McCain’s personal request before his passing, Obama and George W. Bush will speak at his funeral—Trump was specifically not invited. VP Pence will attend in his place.
seems like trump and mccain didn't get along
