Didn't matter to Reagan or W, should not be shocking that Republicans are only the party of fiscal responsibility when it's politically convenient for them to be so.
Great time to point out deficit spending went down every year under Obama!

Chris Hayes pointed out that this is by design.

Hard to argue with the logic, given what we've seen over the past two decades. Going to be so fun listening to Republicans whine about the $30 trillion debt under President Brown because they blew a hole in the budget and wrecked the economy (for the second time in a row). There is tactical method to the GOP's apparent deficit madness. It is *absolutely* necessary that unified GOP governments run enormous deficits so that they can use those deficits to block Democrat's from expansions of social welfare programs.
before we all sit around and start sucking Democratic dicks it should be remembered Obama and his initial Congresses did the exact same thing in cutting taxes and raising spending prior to the sequestration limits that were imposed on him (and that his deficits rose in 2016 and 2017 sorry Zels). Clinton was the last president to see a balanced budget but the effort was spearheaded by Newt Gingrich's House and was frequently opposed by congressional Democrats and The White House. most here are too young to remember but the budget wars of the mid-90s were fierce and Clinton often dragged kicking and screaming into revenue neutrality. and along lines that have little to do with partisanship the rise of the internet (with its heaps of new economic activity and accompanying tax revenue) coupled the collapse of the Soviet Union (allowing us to slash military spending) ensured coming by a balanced budget was easier than it had been in many years, easier than it has been since.
i think if we're being honest with ourselves rather than seeing an insidious cabal extending over hundreds of different individuals separated by decades the simpler truth is that self-interested politicians prefer to cut taxes and spend money more than they like raising taxes and cutting spending.
Sure, let's blame Obama for the fiscal stimulus that was necessitated by Republicans / the Fed blowing up the economy the rest of that decade.
The reality is that there is one side that is acting in completely bad faith when it comes to deficit spending and we all know which one it is.
We can choose to suck Democratic dicks, Republican dicks are often forced upon us.
In other news, and for what it's worth, McConnell has stated that he will begin the Senate session next week by putting forth a blank bill on the floor for anyone to offer up amendments on immigration and get the ball rolling on that.
Can't wait for when Trump gets us into nuclear war with Korea and people will be arguing, "Well Obama and the Democrats didn't stop North Korea when they had the chance, so they bear some of the blame too."
nah yeah we understand he's blameless everything bad that happened under Obama's terms was Bush's fault heard it for eight years
You're underestimating the odds of this administration miscalculating.

But we might start one with them.

There is just no gain for either side. What will further padding the military might of America do besides crush itself under it's own weight eventually?
NK has to talk a big game, but knows it be ending the regime if it resumed war with the US.
We would harm our close allies in the Pacific, undermine our foreign policy interests, and we can't really afford the war at this point. Not unless we really want to push that idea of too big to fail.
The public only would support the war because they are afraid. Not because they are angry or because they were attacked.
We shut down again. Woo. We're #1!
I have a modicum of respect for Paul for doing this. I mean, he's completely hypocritical and he has nothing to lose, as he has zero chance of losing a primary or election in this state because of how wildly popular he is with both "liberal independents" and Republicans, but he single handily shut the government down for what will be several hours.
Who the fuck carries pizza like that
