If not for Punk's collapse last year, what everyone would be talking about right now is how Tokido is the Karl Malone of SF. First Mena has his coming-out party against Tokido at Capcom Cup, and now Problem-X at Evo.

I would 1000-fold rather have SonicFox take DB than CoolKid (or Punk Du whoever) take SF. America did really damn good this year in a lot of games, including Tekken and BB/GG where our scene is peanuts compared to overseas. DB was the biggest title at this EVO and the kid held it down.

Depends on how you count. USA has won five Evos in SF2 (more than anyone else), but if we're just going by the current game, then it's Korea 1, Japan 1, EU 1, USA 0.
And Capcom Cup is USA 1, Caribbean 1, everyone else 0.

and yeah, USA still had good showings. I thought SF would win DB regardless esp based on the recent tourney stuff at VS Fighting where he shit on everybody. Player 1 side too strong.

I didn't count B3/B4/B5 because then that number would have been 8 for USA instead of 5.
I was only counting Evo proper, which had Japanese players (like Ohnuki, Tokido, BAS, Daigo) competing since the first one in 2002.

EU wasn’t even remotely close to US in SF4 skill. Luffy just got really lucky with a character that the Japanese has little experience against, esp Bonchan. If I remember correctly, that was the only EVO a EU ever even made top 8 during the games timeline. Multiple Americans made it every year.

Also, there was a year where there was a huge 5v5 FT2 between EU and America. America won by Krone OCVing set 1 and Latif OCVing the second set. Ryan Hart got really salty and they ran it back and US won 10-1 with the only win being Luffy beating someone. Europe also got raped every year at Canada Cup and the US actually made the finals.

Random fact: I believe 2018 made like the 6th year in a row that Luffy beat Mago at EVO.

I mean yeah, all that's true and all, but 'random character they have no exp' or not.. Luffy still finished on top with a killer's row of dudes he had to go through, lol, so that don't really take from the W.

Problem X flexed too. The game's boring and trash, but he earned his win and finished his plate unlike Punk last year. USA just can't win SF within the past like 10 years it seems, but at least there's Dragon Ball I guess!
