And yeah, you gotta ease into David Lynch. Twin Peaks does a good job of keeping it tame for several episodes and slowly easing you into madness. Blue Velvet was probably a bit off the rails for the mid-80's but easier to ingest today.

Save Eraserhead and Mulholland drive for when you're ready to dive in fully.

I think I'm gonna hit up some Cronenburg this weekend. The Fly, Videodrome, Scanners, Dead Ringers. My wife hates the overall aesthetic of 80s movies, so I'm usually watching these alone.
so mullholland drive was the first thing i'd ever seen from him when i was back in high school, and it was fucking weird as all hell but it was also on halloween so i was more watching it off and on while giving candy out. i just didn't really pay much attention

later on i tried to give twin peaks a go and it actually wasn't tooo nuts, just overall kinda kooky/campy but never finished it since i spoiled the whodunnit for myself by reading the wiki lol.

fast forward years later, i saw the newer twin peaks out on streaming so i decided to take a peek, and boy what the fuck was that. like i was so confused and it was so all over the place, i went to the wiki to try to make sense of it, and doing THAT alone just exploded my mind once i got into the backgrounds of everything.

so, it was only more recently i saw eraserhead (pure despair) and only at that point i began to look up david lynch and figure out what his whole thing was. i mean, i still don't get it? but i get it.

Eraserhead was also my first Lynch exposure when I was like 14 and my (weird) older brother rented it. Then I saw Wild at Heart on a date? at the goth chick I worked with at the video store's apartment. I liked both of those fine but the only other one of his films I've seen since was Lost Highway (mainly because the soundtrack rips).

I've been off work on paternity leave for a couple weeks and pull the nightshift with the baby so mom can sleep and just pump when she wakes up. I've watched so many movies...lots of mysteries for whatever reason.

Mystic River - absolutely fantastic. Hated the ending. Sean Penn at his best.

Gone Baby Gone - another fantastic investigative movie.

Seven Psychopaths - hilarious, meta as fuck. Just a blast to watch.

Gosford Park - unbelievable cast. Great acting. Loved the weird dynamics with the understaff, but found that to be the only interesting part of the movie. Other than that, a bit boring.

Murder by Death - one of my favs I've watched. Very funny. Pretty racist (made in 1976), so be warned. 5 of the "most famous detectives" invited to a house for a dinner and a murder. Makes fun of all the detective tropes.

Existenz - loved it. Jennifer Jason Leigh...God damn...

Videodrome - probably should have been high watching this. It was good, not my favorite. Just all sorts of weird without a good enough payoff.

The Usual Suspects - I don't know if I had seen it before a long time ago and had suppressed my memory of it, or if it was just very predictable. Good, but overrated.

I watched Dodgeball with my 14yr old daughter. She loved it. Then we watched Superbad. I mean, she's probably heard things infinitely worse in middle-school but man it was a bit much for a 14 year old. She couldn't stop laughing though and she about fucking died at the bloody pantleg scene.

Movies in the queue for the next couple nights.

    Contact (1997)
    Brick (2006)
    I Saw the Devil (2010)
    Inherent Vice (2015)
    Happy Death Day (2017)

Contact is a great movie. Just make sure you have the Blue ray with the Dolby TrueHD 5.1 or a digital copy. The visual effects probably look kind of dated but the sound is still really good. Don't turn your bass up to loud or one scene might blow it out lol.

Nah. It’s more tongue and cheek if anything. Doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Got drunk and toasted on gummies last night so found a random movie on MAX called
"Cooties" , offbeat comedy with Elijah Wood as he has done a ton of great smaller movies.
    Really fun watch.

Saw Oppenheimer tonight in 70MM IMAX and the combination was phenomenal. Probably my favorite Nolan film.

We Have A Ghost on Netflix is an Anthony Mackie movie where he's actually not a bad lead.
