Thats cool and all, and I agree about the ads...but im talking about the DMCA takedowns.

I had a lot more about DMCA but its really irrelevant. Right or wrong, big business does what it wants, and the letter and spirit of the law are always far too late to catch up to the speed of technological progress.

I was under the impression the severity of these things was directly related to how much bitching alleged copyright holders were doing recently, tweaking the algorithms might take more time and cause more problems no? I guess it'll be messy... wish there was actual competition for the platform but thats a pipe dream and said competition would probably be in the same position in couple years anyway.

Can confirm. People 100% said it, and channels like Game Theory did a million episodes on it. It was very glum back then.

And probably like YouTube there really is no legit competitor. So unless something comes out of the blue or Twitch manages to do worse and fuck themselves into oblivion they'll still hold the monopoly on streaming.

Didnt some of those Youtubers turn to Patreon and heck even Twitch streaming in order to supplement their income during that time? Patreons are basically a staple now for Youtubers, it didn't start at the Adpocalypse but the Adpocalypse definitely shotgun'd it into being normal.

Not much for Twitch streamers to do from here lol. Hopefully its just not too bad or they correct it quickly.

Youtube should arguably be trying to do this since so much of the stuff that gets flagged is available for purchase on the platform.

But it will never happen because the copyright trolls that do this shit are always out for all of the blood that they can squeeze from the stone whenever they start up with this bullshit.

Twitch could lean on Amazon to make something like it happen, and I'm guessing that's close to where this ends up if Twitchs revenue starts to fall because of it.
That is if this mess starts to cause Amazon to lose enough money they'll step in, but I can't see them doing anyone other than themselves favors.

Facebook and TikTok have licensing deals with most of the labels.

YouTube diverts monetization to whomever claims the video. It's quite hilarious when 100s of claims are put on a video and they all fight for the revenue.

Twitch fucked it up and tried implementing Soundtrack, but Twitch didn't consider the sync and mechanical licenses and fucked up royally. You need 3 licenses to broadcast copyrighted content and Twitch only got 1 of them.



Meanwhile there's some big backlash from Twitch's Glitchcon before it even started. Some top 0.01% streamers featured in today's Glitchcon got some ridiculous over the top party packages that some other streamers are loathing. There was a massive Twitch streamer party setup in Sodapoppin's back yard that screams "Super Spreader Event" despite having CoVID screening protocols. Someone else got a Twitch party bus. OfflineTV also had a similar party setup. Some terrible messaging from Twitch there.
