Some of you may have noticed that suddenly all these Youtube channels are posting polls, and it's because the algorithm is broken.

Some of his math seems imprecise and conclusions are perhaps exaggerated a bit, and it's intentionally clickbaity because it's about breaking the algorithm, but the gist of it is the community posts feature was not popular when it was introduced, so they started making it factor more into the algorithm to drive people to use it. Since posts don't have titles or topics they're recommended based on key terms, so big SEO list dumps push the audience wide. If the channel comments on their own post it gets pushed even harder. If it has a poll, that shows audience engagement, which... pushes it even more in the algorithm. All these things combine into a perfect storm of getting crazy views on these posts. By his estimation he's gotten between 12-20 million views on a post, with less than 2m subs.

That particular streamer's (The Spiffing Brit) main line of videos is about "breaking games" so I can see why he's exaggerating a bit, but he's also tied to The Yogcast, who have a large audience as well. He gets views from me and I don't think I'm subscribed.

Either way, there's been theories building to evidence that Youtube has been doing some hinky things behind the scenes for content for years now. It's interesting to see that it's coming out in the open.

Not sure if e-sports drama counts, but apparently Overwatch team LA Valiant has released it's entire roster, including coaches and staff.

This comes shortly after the team's twitter account denied a rumor that the team had been sold to "an unknown... Chinese organisation" and that the new owners wanted "a team with a heavy Chinese influence".

The minimum player deadline had also just been met with the team members who were released.
