New or Returning Players Discussion 3: FFXI Single Player Edition

There's an easy way to go around it. It's still a pain in the dick to get a Tier 1 Key item to upgrade to a Tier 2 but if you have a friend who has a colorful Abyssite, Have them come out and pop it for you and then have them warp before you kill the VNM and their shit doesn't upgrade in the process.

Don't do it any other way if you value your sanity. Seriously.

Yeah I'd rather pound nails in my dick then do it any other way. I've done the same for a lot of folks via that way for VNMs. Nobody should have to suffer those things the old way anymore.

Speaking of weird tricks. I just remembered that if you're a BST you can use tame on CFH'd normal mobs to reset them.

How do you rip music from the game? Been having difficult finding some of the newer music that's not on any CDs and stuff yet (Iroha theme- dat90, etc).

Can't login to any of my characters right now. Getting 3001 error, no response from FFXI server, connection timed out. Looks like all the servers are up. I've exited POL completely and tried to log in again with the same issue. Any ideas?

EDIT: I was able to get in after completely rebooting my laptop. Weird but ok.

It's not THAT bad, but fuck going 0/30 or worse on the T1 VNM's. In Abyssea, it evened out unless the zones were really packed since you had to wait for respawns anyway, but the upgrade rates for the original VNM's were really bad (unless you were trying to clear a trial with T2 mobs, of course).

Nothing has ever been "THAT bad" in this game, it is not an KRPG.
Even if the bar was lower, it wouldn't have changed the resulted perception. No one wants to pay the price for their arbitrary decisions, to this day.
As friendly as the game is now, we still get the same crap from players.

I think it depends; 15-year-old me spent the two weeks before his 16th birthday camping Argus, back in 2005. 18 - 30 hour respawn is eh, but mixed with sharing a timer with Leech King? That's harsh. Eventually, I went 1/4, having done nothing but spamming widescan for 8 days straight, enduring the torment inflicted upon me by some random gangster who felt like a mastermind telling me how he used my login times to figure out the pop windows (great job figuring out a 12 hour window).

A lot of stuff in this game isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be, but in some regards, this game probably was worse than some KRPG's on the market. Then again, that's what I grew up with and got used to, so I'm not even going to complain, never did, I'm just going to say that it sucked (but was worth it in the end). Fuck Stockholm's syndrome.

On the bright side, I claimed every Argus that popped in that timeframe, go me.

That's the Reisenjima theme. Iroha has her own BC battle theme for the master trial. Was surprised to hear the new music in the fight but I literally cant find it anywhere other than setbgm.

Merit parties were fine, but before AU, it just wasn't a thing to most.

Then again, I got to go for T/VT on my PLD, rocking a nice DD setup from 55 - 62 until I caught up with my static. Then, they were overhunting on Colibris and the fun stopped immediately. Morons. I eventually stopped caring, provoked and flashed and played Diddy Kong Racing during fights.

Wow that's bad. Last month I did all trials before abyssea for Dagger. Maybe it's because I had almost all T3 abyssite from doing Axe trials, but when I did need to do a few it wasn't nearly that bad. Sorry about your luck!
