Black Widow (July 9, 2021)

As already mentioned plenty... seeing some of those scenes again from Pitch Meeting made me think back to my original reaction in the theater of wondering how tf can Natasha survive that (nevertheless walk out virtually non gimpy), if she doesn't possess superpowers? Or her sister for that matter.

Didn't ruin the movie for me, but there were definitely plenty of wut? moments. Overall I did enjoy the movie and thought it was genuinely fun.

Natasha's appeal was she was smart enough to be a step ahead of most everyone (I.E. Loki), and either stealthy enough (Winter Soldier) to get the jump on the peons or so well trained (IM2), which is why her moment with Hulk, in the harrier of Avengers, was such an OSHIT moment; she's not supposed to be bouncing around, like she's Captain America, and her character has been gradually becoming nothing more than a dumb brawler. In a movie that's supposed to be The Marvel Spy movie, at least until a true Nick Fury movie, it came off more like your average joe superhero movie, and wasn't really true to what her character is supposed to be.

I would totally be up for more of the lovable Red Comrade though.

Kinda weird how thick her plot armor was when we have plenty of other marvel live action media that revolved around normal humans having to work around their fragility; Black Panther losing/gaining his powers, John Walker, Steve Rodgers before serum, like the entire Iron Man 3 movie, and plenty of scenes sprinkled into many movies where the basic human is limited or gets wrecked cause they're currently basic and not super human (first stark vs winter soldier fight comes to mind).

It's not a deal breaker, but it's a noticeable and definitely a departure from how grounded they used to keep powerless humans in the live action media. Also, some of those scenes are downright made for TV bad. I wonder how bad the pandemic affected this, and if it could have been a lot better otherwise.

Finally saw it last night. I get the plot armor complaints cause some were pretty egregious, but that's comic book movies for you. I enjoyed it all for what it is For me, there were only two scenes and some aspects that really pulled me out of the experience.

1st, when Alexei and Melina are taking off/falling with the plane off the Red Room, and 3 random jobber guards leap off to sky dive shoot at them. Just felt awkward. Then one lands on the plane perfectly fine. Feel like if it had been some widows, I wouldn't of batted an eye.

2nd, when Dreykov dies and his glasses go peak 90s action movie and fly at the screen. That made me crack up at a scene that I shoulda been happy for.

The fire and explosion effects at the end with the Red Room exploding felt rushed or just not well done. The CG stood out like a sore thumb, with some parts being super green screened. I know they use green screens, but typically it's well done and it all blends in. Some of these looked like something from 5-10 years ago.

Gonna need to see the sauces for that, because everything I found has 3: Steve, Walker, and Sam. In the comics Isaiah branded the uniform, but we don't have confirmation of that in the MCU. No one else is referenced.

In the comics there are a ton more, but not the MCU.

I don’t understand how they missed the blatant opportunity for the whole Cap thing. Red says he fought him, no one believes him and there is no proof. You have a character that can perfectly mimic Captain America. He fights this character and… they do nothing with it. Taskmaster should have gone full-on Captain America and when Red beat him, he could have said something about beating Cap.-

They hate this movie. I enjoyed it for what is was but had MANY of the same thoughts they did while watching.

Honestly this is one of their funniest HiTB's in a very long time. They all have their moments, but the last 20 minutes of this I was consistently laughing. Even the end/wrap up was too good. Specifically from how Marvel found the director of this movie on.

There's no proof.. because he made it up.

He even asks Widow if she asked Steve about their fights which we know never happened since Cap was frozen that whole time.

To Kas' point, it is highly unlikely that it was Isaiah either given the previous point and Red says they had lots of battles. Isaiah was experimented on with the serum in the 50s and was tasked with hunting the Winter Soldier. He failed that mission and spent thirty years imprisoned by the US before being released in the 80s, so while there is some overlap between his time and the Cold War, it doesn't really leave the door open for him to have tons of clashes with Red.

I took this as a propaganda technique by the program to prove they had the better super soldier. See Star Trek episode where Chekhov has an explanation for everything being better in Russia.

Yelena will probably be the Black Widow going forward, most likely she'll be a part of the Thunderbolts they're building towards
