Wouldn't say it's in my top five but better than Iron Man 3, Thor 2 and Captain Marvel at least.

    Spoiler: show
post credits scene all but said "Yelena will return in Hawkeye." I guess she won't be the new Widow in the movies.

    Spoiler: show
She was confirmed to be part of the show months ago. She'll still return as a new Black Widow in the movies after that though probably. Tries to kill Barton first and than finds out what really happened with Natasha and saves Kate from something to make up for what she does prior.

I saw it yesterday. First time in a movie theater in a year and a half..

I liked it but it was certainly one of the weaker Marvel movies. I don't know where I would rate it.

Here are my biggest gripes with it.

    Spoiler: show
Changing Taskmaster's identity. HE is a mercenary for hire with photographic reflex memory that is able to copy anybody's fighting style and find a way to counter them. Not some brainwashed cyborg that Natasha thought she killed when she was a kid that turns out to be the villain so in the end Window can she he from her evil Daddy to make up for what she did. Barf. Taskmaster has a long history in Marvel and is a pretty complicated character (not always evil) so I really hate for him to get treated like that. They could have could have just said toward the beginning of the movie, "Bay guy has hired this person as his personal bodyguard." Natasha: "Yes. I've heard of him." Then at the end Taskmaster turns on Glasses Bad guy because of.. reasons.

In the comics Red Guardian is NOT a Super Soldier. Russia never invented a version of the Super Soldier Serum that gave him powers like Cap. He was just like a ace fighter pilot or something that the government picked to be a knockoff of Captain America and trained him really well and gave him special weapons.

Glasses Guy was like a really bad Bond villain.

The Natasha and Yelena not getting hurt thing was really stupid at times but people have to remember this is a comic book movie. You could argue that because of their brutal training they are really tough and are trained to ignore pain, etc. but yeah.. I can see how people did not like it. But you think fans would want to see Scar Jo get out of a car that just exploded and her face look like street pizza? I just turned my brain off and enjoyed the ride.

The whole "well it's a comic book movie" excuse is so fucking weak. As if comic book heros are maned and mangled, murdered, killed off and die all the time. Entire planets and universes are wiped out in instances.

Hey I'm not sure how up to date you are on Marvel films but Natasha actually fucking dies.

Also like... I could go fucking wild listing the changes in characters from the movies to the comics. If Taskmaster and Red Guardian's stuff really bothered you... suspect.

    Although on that subject

    Spoiler: show
We almost certainly haven't seen the last of Taskmaster and I doubt she'll be portrayed the same in the next appearance.

Guess all the falls and explosions she ate in Black Widow went through her stoneskin and she forgot to reapply it on Vormir.

Imagine being this fucking hung up on how someone in a comic book movie managed something.

Poor writing and hand waving isn't a good excuse because of the genre. That's bad writing.

She knew she had to die (I mean she is doing it on purpose), she purposefully landed on her face and broke her neck most likely in Vormir. Anywhere else she's not trying to land face first onto a concrete/rock like surface approx. 100 feet below her.

Nothing broke her fall on Vormir except the floor. Also the gravity was larger and stuff. Also don't know if you noticed all the bruises on her but they were there.

I share your disappointment though. She should have shattered all of her bones and the movie ended right there. So unrealistic. I'm going to go complain about the lack of such on a message board.

She would have landed in a pose because she is a poser.

No one is arguing that from a narrative point she should have died in the movie, just that sometimes the action can be so loud and dumb as to be distracting, especially when an alleged 'normal human' takes a ludicrously exaggerated level of physical abuse. There were multiple setpieces where I was legitimately distracted by thinking "this isn't remotely plausible," the initial car explosion genuinely had me laughing, and while I'm fine with suspension of disbelief it doesn't change the fact that the action scenes in this felt more unrealistic than usual for a 'regular' person, even by Marvel standards. To provide a more extreme example of the point I'm trying to make, if Batman took a punch from Superman without the aid of Kryptonite or a crazy armored suit, it would be distracting because he's supposed to be 'just like us' only with training and gadgets/money. Well written action with a normal person facing abnormal levels of difficulty involves showing their wits/training/preparation to overcome the obstacles that appear insurmountable, not surviving them simply because the plot demands it. Don't know how to explain this point any better, so I'm going to stop trying, if you don't understand the criticism that's fine, but I do want to reiterate that the movie was fine, this is a comparatively minor gripe, and the critique is just 'room for improvement' not 'this is dogshit.'

They're being purposefully obtuse. Same people probably said BvS was unrealistic because why would they stop fighting just cause he said the name Martha.

Action movies that know they're bad and everyone else knows it, those are fun.

Qal is saying it perfectly, Milk is going a bit overboard. But like has been said a thousand times, we enjoyed his movie. We just think her walking away after falling off a building is silly. As is walking out of multiple flipped cars, and after falling thousands of feet from a self destructing city in the sky. We didn't want her dead, but if they don't want her hurt after those scenes, just like, don't have her fall off a building. Have her fall, but then use her little grappling thing to catch herself.

The difference between this and john wick is that his movie is based on surviving that kind of dumb shit. Black Widow has very much been painted (for like 12 years now) as a normal human who uses her crazy training to survive, not just being able to take the hits and brush it off. She walked shit off in this movie that would have left cap limping.

    Still a good movie though

Here's the thing. I don't care if you guys enjoyed the movie or not.

But your complaints about fall damage are dumb and that I will not stand for on an internet message board.

I mean I won't disagree that the falling was excessive, but her survival isn't anything I could give a shit about after watching Captain America lift a mystic hammer and get beaten to a pulp by Thanos while walking it off.

Iron Man got shot by a tank shell in his very first movie.

    Where's the outrage????
