Wait, do you guys actually have the chat open?
That said:
https://kotaku.com/riot-blizzard-and...oxi-1823941488The Fair Play Alliance is a coalition made up of over 30 different companies, including Riot, Blizzard, Twitch, CCP, and Epic, that aims to share research and lessons learned around gaming communities in the hopes of cutting down on “disruptive behavior.” The goal, Riot senior technical designer Kimberly Voll told Kotaku, is to create a consistent set of behavior standards between companies and a common understanding of the underlying issues that cause poor behavior in online communities.
Fucking LOL
I think I became dumber reading that
Blizz still trying to clean up the internet and getting steamrolled by the machine.
I understand; they want every aspect of OWL to be "respectable" because there are people of all ages watching, and they want to cut down on the toxic behavior that Overwatch streamers and many players display and even cause their fans to embrace. They want to shut off the machine, because bad behavior of fans and players can reflect poorly on Blizz's game and their company. However, I think this is more an effort to look good to outsiders (the general public) than OWL's own fans.
The "war against Pepe" is just another out-of-touch band-aid attempt to clean up something that could be perceived by certain people as offensive (who though, and why should anyone care about them, even Blizz?) Pepe is not even normally (ever?) used by Twitch chat in an offensive manner, unlike the argument one could make for TriHard. Blizz is just afraid of being associated with anything remotely negative. What's becoming clear is they either need to switch platforms or disable Twitch chat on the OWL stream entirely if they want to quash gamer culture as much as they're attempting to.
What I keep wondering about is why OWL sees potentially offensive gamer behavior that their own game enables (teabagging) as okay, but potentially offensive gamer behavior that a 3rd party platform they're using in an official capacity is not okay. Could be that they can't do anything to change it so they pretend it's okay...hmm...
So I think there needs to be a distinction between OWL and general gaming. To me, that whole effort, across all those games, is about raising the bar of what's acceptable and what isn't. I can respect them for attempting to change the culture, but it will probably be a failed effort in the long-run because people are generally shitty.
OWL is different though, it's a product that Blizzard is putting out there, and they have every right to step in and demand a higher standard of their players. Think of it this way, an NBA or NFL player can get fined for saying things that are commonplace on playgrounds or pickup games. Those organizations know that they're never going to stop that behavior, but for the product they're putting out, they don't want to see that behavior. Especially given the money and names associated with OWL, they definitely want it to reach a wider audience, and to do that, they probably will have to clean up some of the behavior.
All that said, if the NFL or NBA had a chat option like Twitch, it would be just as terrible.
Pretty much. Maybe I'm biased but most big name streamers seem to be egotistical assholes. However if Blizzard wants to help lower toxicity in OW just give us an LFG system instead of trying to lump 6 randoms together and expect teamwork
To be fair it does feel like they only seem to care about OWL. Balances come extremely slow, Blizz thinks the game is "balanced" *cough*ReapersShit*cough*, and they seem to cherry pick topics to discuss
They're working on a Reaper and Mei Buff that's supposed to be going to PTR this week or next, but yes you're right. Brig could combo kill Tracer, so they added a delay between her shield bash bash and whip knockback so Tracer could blink away because can't have an effective counter to the face.
Please be good. Reaper has the worst skill kit in the game
Right? Teleport is such a useless move.
This just seems like some type of virtue signalling on all those companies parts, especially Blizzard. The only answer to people being shit in game is to have some kind of system to mitigate that behavior, and that is pretty much where they've set the bar: "Just be nice, OK?" It does not work. Just ended a match with a player who had less than 30% win rate on top five heros played, and spent the majority of the Competitive match spamming dance emotes in the spawn. It takes something crazy like 200 reports before someone is even temporarily banned.
I've almost completely stopped comp games. Sometimes I will do them for the greater exp per game, but I really don't take the games serious anymore unless I get a feel from the other players they actually want to play. I'm around 3500 and just too many games is what you described to be a serious "competitive" environment.
I just noticed this was the OWL thread. Whoops.
Anyway ignoring the holes in their logic with this release I do agree that OWL should behave to some sort of standard while streaming/being streamed. Letting another xQc situation happen again will just cause more damage to their team, OWL, and/or Blizzard if no action is taken.
How did Seoul drop the ball at the end of that one? I was hoping for a game five.. (which admittedly assumes they would have won) >.>
Dallas looking way better after getting Taimou off of tank. That Mei/Reaper strat on Shanghai was brutal. They look like they have some life in them, now.
Taking NY to game 5 -- did not see that one coming.
