White weenie forever (Legacy Death and Taxes while technically being a control deck is my absolute favorite deck ever). Mother of Runes card of the year for all years

The only time I've ever really deviated is with Birthing Pod during Scars/Inistrad standard or Splinter Twin during its original time in Modern.

Edit : oh and Recurring Nightmare/Survival of the Fittest during Urza block

This meta and Replenish were the best MTG standard formats of all-time, free.

I like taxes too, but in limited combinations since I don't like prison mechanics despite my love for control. I miss Thalia so fucking much tho

Tempest/Urza and Scars/Innistrad are unquestionably my favorite periods of standard and nothing else has remotely come close.

Some people who were around for when Urza's Saga originally hit like to hate on it these days, but my god when that set dropped it was so fucking fun. EVERYTHING was just obscenely OP. Even Legacy can't touch how fucking dumb that time period was due to all the bannings that resulted from Saga

Unless you NEED physical, you can get your collect and play on with Arena.
At the best rate, digital packs are $1 each.

I remember getting 1 tournament in before several cards were banned on day 2 lol. Won a lot of Power pieces and scholarships with Replenish. I also vaguely remember the bannings happening on like April Fools day and a lot of ppl didn't believe it and showed up to tourneys with banned cards lol (Key/Spiral/Windfall/TAcademy maybe?)

Memory Jar was the hilarious one that was only legal for the one weekend before getting immediately banned the following Monday

TBH though its kinda working. Never been interested or cared about Magic in my life, but might look into this set just to get a few cards from FF8 and FF11 just because I collect memorabilia from those franchises and I do enjoy TCG stuff.

With that price range though, means I might just buy singles which you know, ain't helping them I guess since its second hand market. Shit even when I dabble in Pokemon and YuGioh these days... the $7/pack quoted last page is like double those other TCG prices.

Competitive Magic has never been worse off and the game has had tournaments since I was introduce via Arabian Nights. This is their first interesting project in ages, but beyond it the game is still a disaster. The people running the show cratered it a long time ago with a myriad of terrible decisions.

My favorite decks were legacy Delver (RUG and BUG) and Modern Karn-Tron. I really miss magic but man it feels overwhelming to come back into the game. Not only that but while I like EDH I don't really want to only play that. I wish there was a better legacy following in my area. I also miss all the big tournaments.

I tapped out on the game during Khans of Tarkir and sold my entire collection except for my legacy deck. I'll still do some drafts from time to time but I stopped caring about keeping up with the game otherwise.

Mostly because I despise the EDH format and that's all so many people want to play these play.

Oh man the return to Mirrodin/Scars and the Innistrad blocks were the best. Standard and Sealed/draft were so much fun during that time.

I stopped playing around Khans as well. I kept my whole collection though I sold off the bulk cards and some of the collectible/sealed booster boxes I was holding onto recently to buy a steam deck. I still have my decks and and my rare binders though.

I have an insane collection, about 30 feet away from me, and I haven’t physically touched a single card in a few years. They drained the game of life. I’m just too lazy to sell it and refuse to deal with lowball offers.

I was lucky to skip the busted ass eras of Magic when I played in paper.

Fallen Empires to Exodus (missed Urza/Masques bullshit)
Odyssey to Legions (missed Scourge's Storm/Mirroden bullshit)
and finally Ravinca to Future Sight (mythic rares came soon after)
    [Loved me some classic Simic]

It was killing off the old plansewalkers/story that pissed me off and made me go, and mythic chase rares that made me write off paper.

I tried MTGO for a bit, but the client kept getting worse and worse.
When Arena and Dominaria was announced, I poked my head in, did the beta. But they made the economy rubbish, so I dipped out.

Dominaria United/Brothers War and the Phyrexian storyline came out, and while Arena's economy wasn't a ton better, Jump In was enough value to make things tolerable.
But they've cut down on events, stopped non-insulting discounts in the store deals, and with the hike to 6 yearly standard sets it's going to be too much to keep up with.

And I don't want Marvel or other bullshit in my Magic. I can take D&D, LotR, even some FF, but cape shit and whatever else is in the wings is a step too far.
Once that set releases, I'm out, and won't be back until they reverse course. (Or someone finally makes a rules-enforced independent client to replace MTGO, and can be configured to exclude UB cards)

The only thing I'll be keeping an eye on is the daily deals, so I can grab what little free gold and gems they give out, and if the Mirage lands ever come back so I can have them if they ever do pull their heads out of their ass.

I love the game, love the old lore, but fuck do I hate how Hasbro has made things shitty because WotC is the only thing that makes them money.

Ehh. My favorite period from the 90s to now was more recent. Throne of Eldraine, Theros, Ikoria, Zendikar, Kaldheim, Strixhaven just before rotation. I didn't mind D&D but by then most things I listed had rotated.

Yeah I love EDH but I feel for people who don't because it's all WOTC seems to care about these days.

I don't feel anything for commander, but I think actively making cards for it defeated its purpose. I've always been a standard man and seeing cards obviously made for commander that would be useless even in standard sets feels like a waste.

I will give commander this, it's more fun than historic/explorer/legacy and serves to let people make decks out of whatever they have.

Curious to see how they translate wind, earth and black. I guess wind could be white, especially since they are monks, which are quite often mono-white. Since it's ATLA, I don't expect any airbenders beyond Aang, but I expect him to be 5 colored. Earth doesn't exactly map to green, and I can't think of a way to map things to mono black.
