    I get where you're coming from, but they tried the single purchase model with Mario Run and it's done the worst out of all of their mobile titles. Mario kart is probably the most egregious as far as profiteering goes, but even then none of it is necessary to play the game. It's just not a great mario kart game to begin with. Fire emblem doesn't really push purchases either unless you're desperate to get a unit as soon as it comes out. Animal crossing didn't used to be too bad but lately they've been locking a lot of stuff behind leaf tickets which is lame. I'm the kind of person who'd rather go with out than throw a bunch of money at mobile games, but I'm probably just weird.

    I wouldn't personally buy a full fledged nintendo game on mobile. I'd rather they just stick to making real games on switch and future consoles than get a watered down tap game I have to pay for. Sure some phone games allow you to use blue tooth controllers but at that point why bother with a phone at all?

    I wonder if it'd have still been the case if Mario Run had more than three hours of content (assuming you grind all difficulty levels) given they charged $10 for it in a market of kids wanting 'free' things. Still annoyed to this day that it needs an online connection to even play. Up against the f2p/cheaper auto-run platformers on the phone market, Mario Run had nothing extra to offer other than Mario branding, which would have been fine for me if it at minimum had twice as many stages to work my way on.


    The only potential upside is Nintendo (or whoever developed this) can rectify the problems with MK Tour, but will they? Probably not, since they likely want to get the game into easy-cash maintenance mode without touching the core of it. They wouldn't want it eating into sales of MK8D on Switch either despite expecting whales to pay far more than the cost of that.

    It just being a bad game is honestly the only thing about it that irks me. I'm familiar with the mobile market and while I do pray for the day this bubble bursts and Lootboxes are finally classified as gambling, the Loot boxes aren't nearly as bad as other games, the "Monthly subscription" is a very common thing in other games and most of the time people demand for it (Hello "Vault of Lapis"), though admittedly having a mode locked out behind it is shitty and I cannot excuse that. Its Gacha rates are more generous than a lot of games out there too. Overall, its not egregious in its monetization and I'm just not going to hold Nintendo to some god tier golden standard when it comes to the mobile market.

    But yah... games just bad.

    I couldn't find the right thread for this but whenever you guys are done with this crappy game and you're ready for something fun the call of duty app is actually spectacular.
