Poirier is hurt and off UFC230.
Poirier is hurt and off UFC230.
- Khabib jumps fence to attack Dillon
- Conor attempts to jump fence but is pulled back down
- Member of Khabibs team try’s to jump fence next to Conor
- Conor attempts to stop him and throws a bunch they scuffle briefly
- Another member of Khabibs team circles around to attack Conor they both throw a punch pretty much at the same time
- While this is happening guy in red on Khabibs team jumps in the octagon and attacks Conor from behind and sucker punches him 3 times
Teammate of Khabib boasted before the fight on social media he was going to smack Conor, than bragged about it afterwards. That shit was 90% Khabibs teams fault.
Poirier being out of UFC 230 fucking sucks

“Circles around to attack Conor” is speculation. We don’t really know what was going on. From the angle I saw, he was already close to Conor, probably arguing. All we do know for sure is Conor threw the first punch twice.
No doubt this is majority Khabib’s fault. But Conor is also largely responsible, especially for what happened in the cage.
The way the UFC and Dana promoted the fight was a problem.
Conor continued his usual pre fight antics against a guy who doesn't really have a sense of humor about that kind of stuff.
Conor cheated heavily during the fight.
Danis ran his mouth against a guy who was extremely fired up from just winning + being pissed off about Conor cheating.
Khabib definitely shouldn't have gone that far, but it's very easy to understand how he got pushed to that point.
The gentleman i’m referring to “circling around to attack conor” was definitely already close to Conor and they were arguing and it was right after Conor threw a punch at the guy on the cage. He had to circle around security to get close to Conor. As soon as he did Conor squared up and they both threw a punch, that one was fair game, the guy in red is the one who was out of bounds and should be punished more harshly. You don’t jump into the cage and attack a fighter from behind who just went 3.5 rounds.
Everyone knew or should have known that the tension between these two camps was going to boil over and lead to something like this. The build up wasn’t your run of the mill shit talking we usually see. Conor talked a lot of shit and ultimately didn’t back it up. But it did get to Khabib, it just came out during and after the fight and backfired for Conor.

With how the UFC has handled guys like Conor and Jon Jones, continually rewarding them in spite of repeated and public fuckups, Dana shouldn't been surprised that promoting an atmosphere of letting the star fighters do whatever they fuck they want with no consequences would eventually backfire.
This is great:

Jon Jones vs Gustafsson at UFC 232 for the LHW title.
first fight was one of the GOAT but damn. Jones pisses hot twice and gets instant title shots after both times. MMA seems to become more like boxing every day, chasing the money fights at the expense of everything else hollowed out that sport too.
By the time the fight rolls around neither guy will have fought for over 18 months.
It will be though. Don't even hey why it's happening to begin with.

DC vacated LHW? God I’m so out of it
I think realistically DC probably wouldn't want to do the LHW cut again anyways. Dude always looked like death at weigh ins.
Plus his best money fight options before retiring (other then Jones) are at HW.
He'll fight Brock then retire, and I don't blame him at 39 years old.
Sucks though. His inability to beat Bones will always be a thorn in his side, with the failed tests being an extremely minimal moral victory at best. I genuinely thought DC would beat him. Ah well.
I thought DC would outwrestle Jones both times myself too
