Do you really? The entire OG SSJ concept becomes an afterthought once him and Goku just start spamming SSJB.

It's easier to explain than SSJ4, but kind of, yeah.

Vegeta goes rage SSJ2 against Beerus and it's mentioned directly that "he's stronger in SSJ2 than Goku's SSJ3" by Piccolo. Who is literally witnessing this event in Daima right now.

The only really valid explanation is either that it takes too long to use in a split second moment, or that Vegeta realized the stamina drain isn't worth it and gave the form up. I lean towards the latter.

But realistically it's just that Toriyama didn't give a shit about "canon" and wrote the story he wanted to write and the nerds that watch it (myself included) are coping.

For some reason each version of this scene can never be matched/recreated and neither have they tried. In Dragonball Kai it's a downgrade even. If anything Team Four Star's recreation is by far the closest/equal. This scene however does represent a very significant scene with a song insert, it's incredibly rare in this series overall.

I know some people don't like the TFS abridged series but I personally do because they really do put the love into it. From the same Gohan scene, the commentary and reactions around it was amazing and if you did like TFS's version I highly recommend a quick view (start at 1:18:25 - I pasted the video with the timestamp but I don't think it transfers to here) where they talk about their ep and also the original. MasakoX's Gohan cry during the first seconds of the transformation matches the energy of the original from Masako Nozawa, which I find to be incredibly chilling/haunting in a good way.



But, of all places, I expected Dragon Ball Kai to equal or surpass it, but nope. But the odd thing is they decided to enhance other scenes instead in Kai, for example, Trunks vs Cell, see below, where they insert an original (or made for) song. Goku vs Buu even gets one later on, which is also quite a banger.





I think Daima could've done with 1 or 2 scenes like that, maybe a battle orientated version of the OP, but nevermind, we might still get one next week lol

tldr: this anime needs a bit more scenes with a song insert (remember how cool Ultra Instinct goku reveal was lol)

Not enough people are talking about how insane it is that Nozawa is 88 and still cranking out iconic performances like this last episode. I would argue that it was better than anything she did in Super or any of the recent movies.

I don't really think Dragon Ball can go on after she's done. In a way, even more so than Toriyama's death. How tf do you recast GOKU???? He's never been voiced by anybody else. Ever.

Well yeah, Daima provided better acting material, dialogue, etc., for the cast than pretty much all of Super or the recent movies. It's their first return to the adventure genre in decades, and the result is the least stale Dragon Ball content in years. Sucks to see it end with a sorta formulaic whimper next week, but the meat of Daima was refreshing stuff.

But yeah -- Tsuru voiced Bulma for 31 years, and no one is complaining about Hisakawa's first 5 in the role. She taught us this very week that Vegeta likes soapy boobs. Nozawa wants to keep going another 88 years, but we know one day she'll be gone and if they want to keep that merch train rolling they'll recast her like anyone else. Or, for no reason, they'll finally make Goku the Martial Arts League Champion and sunset the whole IP in an 11 episode epilogue arc revisiting all his friends and pokemon and then just throw decades of beloved, meaningful narrative in the garbage for the dumbass Gen 9 games because WHY WOULD THE MOST LUCRATIVE IP IN HISTORY NEED TO SELL MERCH?

Either the manga ends right here and he fully retires to be with her, or he realizes that he loves Boxing more than her, doesn't to ruin her life by continuing to slow-pitch things, and goes all-in to win it all.

It's a good, fun, simple final episode.

I'm satisfied. My thoughts below:

Stunningly good animation. Oddly enough the initial portions of the fight was silent.
They name dropped SSJ4.
Goku had it all this time? I thought it was given to him via the bullshit powerup the old namek guy gave him.
I guessed Piccolo Piccolo screwing up, but I didn't think Kuu would be used like this but it fits Dragonball.
The wrap up was quite satisfying, if simple.
The credits images was nice and also provides a good resolution overall.
The post credits scene was just funny, but I don't think it'll lead to anything.

Looks like we won't be seeing them fusion bugs lol

Really fun series altogether. Ending was the usual fanfare but it was still pretty endearing. Great animation behind it too. Besides the transformations for Vegeta and Goku, what I enjoyed the most was the sense of adventure. Especially in the earlier episodes.

Overall it was a beautiful send off for what’s essentially Toriyama’s final touch on Dragonball.

Toriyama butchering "canon" and forgetting the fusion bugs is making all the sweaty Redditors big mad but it's pretty much just par for the course. Like I posted a few days ago. He always wrote wtf ever he wanted and didn't care about continuity or anything.

This pretty much straight up can't be canon with Super for numerous reasons at this point but who gives a shit. Fun show.

Outside of that, there was a little information released last week saying that there was confusion and fans thought Daima was the DB 40th anniversary project. It is NOT that project. That is a separate project and has yet to be publicly revealed.

It started out as an adventure and mostly fizzled out of that when they got to Gohma's castle. The rest of it was pretty much just him being a punching bag for several episodes until the gag defeat. Over-all I liked it but they really messed up the lore and transformations with this series. I suppose if Toei wants to go off in a separate direction than the manga, this opens it wide open for them. I'd be fine with that so long as the quality stays at least the same as Diama.

The post-credit scene was actually pretty awesome though.
