To be fair to Max they did tell him to give it back, but how they bungled the communications I just don't know. Why Hamilton didn't just go around him is really his fault, there were no yellow flags or warnings, and they're clearly in the front of the pack. Should be no reason for why you don't just pass Max when the opportunity arises.

Any accident or damage that happened behind him would have triggered flags, and they would have had to travel around the entire track to get to it. Really just Hamilton overthinking it and rear ending Max.
