Plus Ham had plenty of space to go around, considering how good Ham is at passing, he definitely is at fault for not going around him at a car slowing down. Imagine if Max legit had an engine breakdown or something, would Hamilton cry brake check?

Max was still mostly centered in the track, which is what I think confused Hamilton and maybe thought another Virtual Safety was out. If you're gonna give up the space you make it blatantly obvious.

All said it was just sheer stupidity from the drivers, teams, and FIA. Hopefully they'll just leave it alone and everyone can jointly issue a "my bad"

They had enough time to let Max know he had to give it up. There's no reason why Hamilton and Co. didn't have enough time to let Hamilton know what was up. I'd bet it was a communication fiasco though, as aluded in one of those FIA calls they aired

Max retroactively given a 10 second penalty for the collision. So no effect on the race or the next. Also 2 points on his license.

Telemetry confirmed that Verstappen did absolutely brake check Hamilton at the last second, which is what they believe caused the wreck.

Yeah, once the FIA put out the report that Max had brake checked with 2.4g of force it was RIP. Granted Hamilton was naughty himself prior to the DRS zone, knowing full well he was slowing to unsafe speeds but was doing so so that Max didn't catch the DRS detection behind him, but that's small beans compared to how deadly brake checking can be.

If Max had only done the original brake, and not the harder brake moments later, Hamilton should absolutely been dinged for it, but they never would have cause that'd affect the championship going into the final race. Same reason why Max got such a slap on the wrist after the fact, knowing full well it doesn't affect the championship in the final race whereas if this all happened at the start of the season than grid place penalties would be flying left and right.

FIA really fucked up this race. Just ain't no excuse, and they enabled it by letting both drivers off easy all season long.

Max seriously dun goofed, the telemetry is undoubted. But Ham is smart and knows how to play the field also. Despite Ham not knowing that he was supposed to pass, he wouldn’t have hit Max and actually went around him. With how much of a monster Ham is at passing people especially in some dire moments, i feel there is some smart play on his part. He risked the car yes, but the merc is pretty durable compared to other cars it seems. If the situation were that Max’s engine failed in that area, would Ham claim the same? No one knows, the race is over, bring on the final battle. To the best man goes the crown. This season was great despite dirty plays on both sides. I wish Saudi wasn’t that shitty of a track and despite my bias for being a resident, i fear Miami will be the same shitshow next year.

Ham knows how to take people out very very well without fully risking his car, the proof is in the pudding, Max at silverstone and Albon in both times the year prior. His experience has allowed him to know how to do these things, the best drivers know how to take others out with minimum consequences.
