INDYCAR drama!
Chip Ganassi Racing announced today they were picking up the 2023 option for current IndyCar champion Alex Palou.
Hours later Palou tweeted that he didn't agree to the 2023 option or the press release and called out CGR about fabricating a quote from Palou regarding staying with CGR.
After that, McLaren announce Palou joining the team for the 2023 season which includes an F1 testing program with the 2021 MCL35M for Palou, Pato O'Ward, and Colton Herta (Andretti must be tossing money at Zac Brown. Herta had a 2 day test in Portugal in the MCL35M this week.) The implication is the tests will let all three earn more Super License points. Palou already has the 40 points by winning the 2021 IndyCar title.
Also of note, the McLaren press release is intentionally vague.
-Felix Rosenqvist, the current 2nd IndyCar seat, is confirmed staying with McLaren. O'Ward is in the 1st seat.
-Alexander Rossi is on contract for 2023 for McLaren's new 3rd car.
So no one knows who is going to what series - IndyCar, the acquired spot in Formula E from Mercedes, or Ricciardio's seat (he's still under contract for the 2023 F1 season)
It's so awkward cause Riccardo can show up...sometimes...but also why even spend the time on the Aussie when you have so much young talent in the pipeline waiting for the shot? He's not terrible but he ain't great either...

Ricciardo released a statement that he is committed to the F1 2023 season. It's also Year 1 of new regs so DR3 is likely helping with the development with the car. He was part of the Pirelli tyre tests this previous weekend.
While McLaren F1 is underperforming, I'm leaning on it being more on the car than the driver. They're the best customer team running a Mercedes PU and tied for 4th in constructors points with their main competitor - Alpine.
It is impressive how inept Ferrari is.
Telling Sainz to pit while he's actively fighting against Perez for P3, at this point it might be safe to assume they're not even watching the race.

Vettel finally joined social media yesterday (Instagram)
Announced that he is retiring at the end of the season. Is going to use social media to continue to speak out on human rights and climate change.
Oh look, Ferrari bombing their strategy again
I saw the results from yesterday and it wasn't a question of how Ferrari would mess this up, but how many magnitudes of excessive ways would they do it in.
Turned the race on just before Leclerc went to the hard compound and started screaming that they were terrible.
Starting 2 and 3 and missing out on the podium solely based on strategy, just Ferrari things
Way to fuck it up again Ferrari.
Christ, pastalords just can't get it right.
The bit in the cooldown room of everyone laughing about Leclerc going onto the hards, fantastic.
