Nobody could have believed it, but RBR is now in the back foot and the momentum is way in MCLs favor right before the break. I'm suddenly buying the Max is unhappy with red bull and is looking elsewhere stories.

Was fiddling around with Fast-F1 (https://github.com/theOehrly/Fast-F1) and historic data. Something is not adding up. Merc, Ferrari, McLaren are faster than they were the year before. Even Williams and AM are faster than they were last year. Red Bull however is actually slower. Max's lap time consistency since Canada at the very least are still tight, but the times are still not on the delta for how other teams improved.
I take it back, his fastest laps are faster, so it just makes no sense since race pace looks off.
He actually has competition now instead of just constantly being in clear air is what I would assume is the easiest explanation.
Yes, clean air absolutely counts, but it doesn't explain the drop in laps where he's not trapped behind someone.
A lot of red bulls upgrades seem to have been sidegrades or downgrades, and they haven't adjusted yet. Everyone else is making gains while red bull is wallowing. Doesn't seem to be as easy as undoing the upgrades either since his fastest laps are faster, they just can't hold onto that thru an entire race.

There's no way they're feeling Newey's departure this hard already.
Who's to say these aren't his? No reason he can't miss every now and then. They are making gains in some ways, but in more important ways they're falling behind.

honestly i think they were the first to hit the bleeding edge of the regs and they can't really do much to "upgrade" at this point. Everyone else's chassis' are still evolving but Red Bull is more of a push and pull of factors with similar outcomes. It seems like they're trying to make the car better in dirty air but compromising overall performance to do so. We need merc to hit the same level so we can have some fookin raycin.
Mercedes 1-2, wild times
1.5 kg underweight RIP
Was just about to post it, sucks for Russell
Was at the minimum weight at the end of the race, but after taking the "randomly selected" fuel sample it went under it seems. Dems the rules but that's kinda bullshit imo

The weight of the cars is measured without fuel. If they submitted the car for the weight with fuel in it that then had to be taken out Mercedes already knew what was up
What I've read is Mercedes fucked up and didn't account for how much rubber he lost on his tires because of the one-swap strategy they went with.
Yeah, saw this. It's insane how on the edge this cars are, that losing grams on each tire can come out to a DQ. He literally fucked himself by calling that ballsy 1 stop strat, despite how wonderfully he managed those tires. That said, it seems obvious to me that that weight of the cars shouldn't include the tire weight since that is a known factor (when fresh) and cars/tracks/drivers are all different degradation factors, but I can't really justify that because this isn't new.
Also funny that two years ago, they were all shaving off paint in order to try falling under the maximum weight, and here they are trying to stay above the minimum.
