I don't want to be too hard on him, but yes. He wasn't passing so technically Sainz was within his rights to close the door. Still, not a great look for Sainz.

You misunderstand. I agree with both of them getting sacked but letting the rumor mill stew all weekend instead of just announcing it when Danny apparently knew on Tuesday that he was done is just stupid optically.

Sure, it was technically a rumor, but everyone knew at that point that it was his last race. He knew it too. He didn't go in blind. They'd 100% would've had a talk with him before it. Confirmed later sure, but he had to have known. As for optics, he got more leeway that RB normally gives their drivers, Perez aside.

Short version, a bunch of teams pointed fingers at Red Bull for having a system in place to adjust their ride height between qualifying and the race. And even though they totally claim they weren't cheating, they're no longer allowed to use it.
