2018 NFL Off-season & Draft Thread: Big Dick Nick

Finally got a chance to sit down and digest the draft and I gotta say, I’m super happy with what Gettlemen did for the Gmen. With the Will Hernandez pick especially as I was personally hoping for Nelson then an RB like Guice in the 2nd round.

imo, it will come down to the QB that determines if the draft was a win or not

If Lauletta and whomever else don't pan out, and Darnold/Rosen/Allen are good, it's going to be a monumental mistake taking an RB over a franchise QB

It's a worthwhile gambit though if they only had a slightly lower grade on Lauletta

2018 NFL Off-season & Draft Thread: Big Dick Nick

I forgot where I read the statistic, but it’s something ridiculous like 70% of all first round QB’s since 2000 have been a bust.

Even disregarding the QB versus RB debate at the #2 pick, I’m still happy about the draft, UDFA, and FA this offseason. A lot of key positions long ignored by Reese have finally been addressed.

That really depends on how you define "bust". Was Mark Sanchez a bust? Kerry Collins? Vince Young?

Yeah, but you gotta risk it to get the biscuit. Have to get a good QB somehow and FA QBs aren't on those sweet sweet rookie contracts.

I'm not arguing it was a bad draft overall, only making the point that the QB/RB decision at #2 will define it

Young went to two Pro Bowls and was 31-19 as a starter. Sanchez took the Jets to two AFC championship games.

    Definition of "bust" varies.

Anyone that thinks Young wasn't a bust is an idiot and has an awful opinion. Young had some stacked teams that won him games and he cost them other games. The second he was replaced by the aforementioned Kerry Collins, Collins won 10 games in a row. He has one of the lowest Wonderlic scores of all-time, and he literally cannot read. Also, the Pro Bowl, at the time, let fans vote in players. Young only got in because other players turned it down and were injured. That is an ignorant statistic to judge someone on, during the years fans decided who got in.

Bottom-line: If you draft a QB with a 1st round pick, and then you don't even want to resign him to his 2nd contract, he is a bust. I'm not sure that Sanchez falls under this criteria, because I think the JETS were dumb enough to extend him and then almost immediately terminate the extension, but he was just shit.

I think Eli gets more flak than he deserves and can still be a competent QB for at least another two years when you give him an actual o-line that can protect him along with a legitimate RB who can keep the running game honest.

Eli certainly gets the shaft. The Giants haven't had even a below average RB in almost a decade.

He's fine for now, the problem is that you don't want to have to bottom out again to get a high pick and that's the best place to find a franchise QB. The alternative is teams like the eagles and rams that had to give up an assload of picks to move up - both are fortunate those moves worked out or they would be like the redskins.

It was set up perfectly to take Darnold or Rosen and have them sit behind Eli for a year.

Were Bradshaw and Jacobs that long ago?

Eli has always been a mediocre, top 15-20 guy with a few horrid years mixed in. His greatest ability has been his durability.

Jacobs was almost a decade ago and Bradshaw was like 7 seasons ago, and some would argue that neither were very good and just in the largest market in the World. If either of those players were on the Jaguars, I highly doubt anyone would even remember them.

If you look at their stats from 2007-2012, at least one of them was in the 4.5-5.0 ypc range every year except for 2011. Whether it was more them or more the oline (I say both), it shows that Eli was getting plenty of help
