Here we are now more than halfway thru 2018 and I can only think of two WWE main roster matches that I would put up as a MOTY candidate—Angle/Rousey vs HHH/Stephanie from ‘Mania, and the women’s Royal Rumble match based on its historical importance plus it actually being good. Meanwhile NXT puts out multiple MOTY candidates every Takeover, and although I don’t watch NJPW I know they are putting out classics at every PPV. I just wish the main roster would put in more work instead of playing it safe so to speak.

MOTY was obviously the announcement for Evolution. WWE doesn't have "matches" of the year. They have moments. NXT is just to (re-)up people's profile/remold people in WWE's image so they can sell t-shirts when they move to the main roster. Let them do their "cool moves" there and people will fall for it every time. Asuka/Charlotte at Mania was probably one of the better matches of the year and IC matches with 2 or 3 of Miz/Balor/Rollins were probably all really good, but I'm not sure anything really blew me away. It's like the team that goes 9-7 every year.

In other news, Night 14 was this morning and without giving much thought was probably a top 3 show of the tournament so far. As usual, skip the Firing Squad, enjoy the fun Yano match, and gird your loins for ZSJ/Juice, Omega/Ishii, and Naito/Ibushi.

I think Seth has been carrying harder than anyone else in the main roster this year, even more than AJ. As much as i am an AJ shill, AJ always has had magical matches this year, but he’s had a handful of mediocre matches starting with Nakamura in Mania. Seth on the other hand has been on another level, and continues to show he deserves the top spot. It just sucks that the gatekeeper to his push is Vince’s booking.

I know that I do it, and I think a lot of others probably just give AJ some residual status from the past couple years. As happy as we were that he got the title back, has this even been that great a reign? Most of this year was a lackluster Nakamura program. He and Rusev had a nice match, but in two months I'll probably forget that Rusev got a singles title shot at all. AJ and the title were 2nd/3rd fiddle in the KO/Zayn/Shane program before that. He's been doing fine considering what they're giving him, but this program with Joe is the first time AJ will get something that feels important and will be good in a LONG time.

Edit 1 - Omega and Ishii beat the fuck out of each other. They may want to turn it down a notch or 3.

Edit 2 - Ibushi and Naito did too. Damn. I thought Kota killed Naito at one point.

Matt Riddle dropped the EVOLVE title last night to Shane Strickland. Sounds like he'll be finishing up the next few EVOLVE shows and the Progress US tour which started today before taking a seat in Brooklyn.

All In: Zero Hour will be on WGN America at 6:00 PM Eastern on Sept 1. The rest of the show will be on PPV and streaming on FITE. That's pretty damn big.

God damn Ronda is legit good. But despite her short match, she was extremely gassed, i remember edge and christian mentioning it in their podcast, a huge difference between being in top shape, and being in ring shape. Ronda has a bit to go to be in full ring shape.
