Chikara King of Trios Night 1 Experience + results

I've never been to a Chikara show and I don't follow it that much. That being said, the crowd was really into it and it made it a lot of fun. I would recommend checking out a live show if you have the opportunity.

1. Ancient Order of the Nations (Mick Moretti, Adam Hoffman & Jack Bonza) defeated Xyberhawx Techno Union (Razerhawk, Nytehawk & Danjerhawk) - Fine opener, but the Order of Nations was nothing special. Two of the hawks were smaller than me. They were able to do some basic wrestling and combine it with flippy shit, but there was no coherence to the match.

2. The ResistANTce (Fire Ant, Green Ant & Thief Ant) defeated The Dark Lords of the Proteus (Callux the Castigator, Frantik & Volgar) - The ants are mainstay of Chikara. I guess the story is the old ant colony is gone, except fire ant. Green and and Thief Ant are new, but Fire Ant reluctantly accepts them, but still keeps his distance. Green Ant did a lot of selling early and he wasn't half bad. Fire Ant came in late and looked a lot better than the rest. The other team was supposed to be like science experiments. They were all just big fat dudes. If you are an evil scientist, wouldn't you make 3 Brock Lesnar looking dudes?

3.The Nexus Alliance (PJ Black, Fred Rosser & Tyrone Evans) defeated The Regime (Juan Francisco de Coronado, Rick Roland & Sloan Caprice) - PJ Black was Justin Gabriel in WWE while Fred Rosser was Darren Young and Tyrone Evans was Michael Tarver. The match was fine, it probably went a bit long. The comedy was that Juan is tiny(maybe 5'5"), but is the boss of Rick Roland and Sloan Caprice. Match was a bit longer than needed, but there was enough comedy and nostalgia spots to make it fine.

4. The Raiders of the Beyond (Cam Zagami, Brian Milonas & Chris Dickinson) defeated The Millennium Throwbacks (“Mr. Touchdown” Mark Angelosetti, Dasher Hatfield & Boomer Hatfield) - Match was again fine. Mr Touchdown got 'hurt' taking a suplex from the apron to the floor in front of me. I thought it was a work because he was complaining about everything and his leg looked okay. Maybe it is a story as Chris Dickerson is starting to become somewhat known on the indies.

5. The Ohanka Gang (Jean-Pierre Lafitte, Rey Bucanero, & Katarina Leigh) defeated The Society of the Deep (Merlok, Hermit Crab & Cajun Crawdad) w/Oceanea - This was pirates vs sea monsters. Jean-Pierre Lafitte is PCO and is having a career resurgence. He was wearing a weird wig, but it totally worked. Katarina Leigh is the former Katie Lee Burchill in WWE who wrestles in Impact as Katrina with Grado and Joe Hendry. Rey Burcanero is a star from CMLL who really did a couple dives and not much else. The 'highlight' of this match was Cajun Crawdad being killed by PCO.

6. The F.I.S.T. Order (Icarus, Travis Huckabee & Tony Deppen) defeated The Galactic Wildlife Commission (ThunderFrog, Air Wolf & Wildcat) -

The New Republic (Kikutaro & Los Ice Creams (El Hijo del Ice Cream & Ice Cream Jr.)) defeated Sisters of the Mighty (Mighty Molly(Holly), Aja Perera & Solo Darling) - I have never seen the ice creams, but I fucking love them. El Hijo del Ice Cream especially. They are fucking hilarious. Solo Darling was in most of the match with The New Republic getting the heat on her. Mighty Molly got the hot tag and did a few moves, including the Molly-Go-Round. Finish was Solo and Molly had submissions on the ice creams and were faced away from the ring, but Kikutaro rolled up Aja.

8. Tokyo Joshi Freedom Fighters (Miyu Yamashita, Yuka Sakazaki & Shoko Nakajima) defeated The SHIMMER Collective (Madison Eagles, Shazza McKenzie & Jessica Troy) - This was the match I was here for. Shoko is like 4'9" which was so weird compared to the 6'2" Madison Eagles. The three Tokyo Joshi Pro ladies were very good in the ring. Early on, Shoko and Yuka got some cool moves in while they kept teasing Madison Eagles vs Miyu. Shoko was in distress in the match while the Aussies had their way with her. I don't think either team was supposed to be face or heels here, but the TJPW girls were so over that the Shimmer team went full heel, something they did very well. Yuka eventually got a hot tag and went wild include a big springboard crossbody to the outside in front of me. Miyu and Madison finally met up with Miyu getting a couple of kicks in. Ending came when Yuka gave Shazza the Magical Magical Girl Splash. Overall match of the night and honestly, it was just a really good match for any card anywhere.

Overall, I thought this show was really good. It reminded me of SCSA/Rock era of WWE where the crowd was into everything, no matter how bad or corny. Each match felt different, which was a plus as well.

Zero Hour kicked off with the Bucks and Cody cutting a promo, using pyro, shooting tshirts into the crowd. Basically saying this was a show for the fans and they wanted to give what the fans wanted.

SCU(Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky) defeated The Briscos in a non-title match. I have to think this is setting up something in ROH. The match itself was pretty good with a really fast paced finish. The only problem is there were some audio issues on the entire WGN broadcast that went away on the PPV. Go Figure.

The Over the Budget Battle Royal was won by Flip Gordon(who dressed as Chico El Luchador) - This was a really great battle royal including tons of mid-rope dives so people wouldn't get eliminated. A lot of people looked strong here including Brian Cage, Billy Gunn, Punishment Martinez, Moose, Jordynne Grace, Bull Ray, Colt Cabana, and Marko Stunt. I think people in the crowd didn't recognize it was Flip in the Chico costume, but they fucking popped when he unmasked and eliminated Bully Ray. I don't know if this is online to watch yet, but I strongly recommend finding it.

Matt Cross defeated MJF - Fine match. Matt Cross is still a great flyer and can do some crazy moves. MJF is basically heel EC3 in TNA. He is fine in the ring, but just does nothing for me. The match was fine, but it could have been shorted and had the same impact.

Christopher Daniels defeated Steven Amell - I really thought Arrow was going to win this match, so I'm glad Daniels did. It was fine, but another match I wish was shorter.

Tessa Blanchard defeated Madison Rayne, Britt Baker and Chelsea Green - Britt came out to Adam Cole's ROH music(they are dating) which is still a fucking amazing song. Chelsea brought back her Laurel Van Ness gimmick which was pretty over. She also looked better in the ring than I remember. Madison is good as well. It was mentioned on commentary that she was in the MYC, competed for the Impact title and did All In in a month, which is pretty great for her. Tessa is a fucking star and she was the right person to win. She needs to go back to Stardom or something though as she needs to work with girls her skill level and above. There is no one in Impact that is close.

Cody defeared Nick Aldis for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title - They made a point in saying that Cody weighed 206 pounds, which I thought was weird since everyone was giving Marty shit for being a junior coming into this and saying 205 to him. Anyway, match was pretty awesome old school match. I wish Cody was dead for a little less time, but it fucking worked. DDP popping a diamond cutter on Daivari was fun. Aldis did a great job being a heel in this whole program, topping it with a flying elbow to Brandi.

Hangman Page defeated Joey Janela - This was a match that I was hyped for because both guys will do anything. They literally killed each other in this match. Janela took 3 sick bumps(burning hammer through a ladder on the outisde, a powerbomb off the stage where only his head hit the table, and the Rights of Passage off a ladder and through a table). Penelope Ford is someone that I'm sure WWE is going to look at, if they didn't know her before. She has the look they want and showed she can do some moves. The post match stuff with Joey Ryan was great. A lot of people, myself included, probably thought he would get involved in the match itself, so the planning was nice. The Undertaker spoof with the dick druids and all was fucking hilarious.

Jay Lethal defeated Flip Gordon to retain the ROH World Title - Fine match. I expected a little bit more from both, but I also can't really complain about what they did. Match mixed the comedy of Lethal going in and out of Black Machismo well. Flip did his Hogan spot that the announcers thought was a Warrior spot(the 3 elbows followed by the psych up was in Randys WWE retirement match vs Warrior).

Kenny Omega defeated Pentagon - This was awesome. Kenny is on fire right now and Pentagon is a fucking star. They really went all out on one another and every second was great. The aftermatch stuff with the lights going out and Jericho dressed as Penta was fucking perfect.

Kazuchika Okada defeated Marty Scurll - Meltzer said this match went 12 minutes long, but god damn did it need those minutes. Okada is so fucking amazing at this point that I have to believe he is crossing into that top 5 ever catagory, if he wasn't there already. There were legitimately times I thought Marty was going to win this match, which is a testament to both wrestlers.

The Young Bucks and Kota Ibushi defeated Rey Mysterio, Fenix, & Bandido - I had only seen Bandido in one or two matches before, but the other 5 guys are all well known to me. You could tell the match was rushed because everyone was doing spots and it just kept going till it cut out right after this pin. That being said, the frantic pace really worked after the last match. Bandido is going to be a star in a few years. I know there are rumors of Fenix and Pentagon going to WWE, but I would love to see Fenix in a BoSJ(even though that is hard because he works for AAA until recently). Also, the fucking pop when Rey and Ibushi stared each other down.

So about All In, thought I'd mention this here since our forum is smaller and not full of cognitively impaired people. My buddy has been a wrestling fan all his life. His apartment walls are covered from top to bottom with wrestling posters. He was a WCW fan before the Monday Night Wars.

So both of our first time watching NJPW was Wrestle Kingdom 9 and we both thought it was awesome. Back then he didn't have internet so only I continued to watch NJPW but he'd watch some when he'd come over. Wrestling wise it's clear NJPW is high quality. He pops for the big spots and all that. Now here is the thing, he's a huge Roman fan. I'm only bringing this up because wrestling wise, Roman is middle of the pack in WWE in my opinion but my friend thinks Roman is actually the best wrestler in WWE.

I asked if he wanted to come over to watch All In. He said verbatim, "I have zero interest in watching anyone on that show." Now some might say he's trolling. He's not. I assure you, he's not. Lately whenever I bring up NJPW or LU he has zero interest. It's only WWE. I just don't get why someone who was brought up watching NWA to WCW, WWE, ECW now hates anything outside of WWE. I get it. Fanboy. But so deep? I find it so strange.
