don't really care about release dates just hope 6 is better than 5, which was a pretty significant storytelling step backwards from 4 and RDR.

also Clair deserves it so far but no JRPG has ever won so some uphill sledding there. also got new Doom, Elden Ring, Mario Kart, Metroid, Death Stranding, Donkey Kong, Yutei, possibly Silksong, several of which are gonna be 90+ bangers. early in the day.

I mean, Forza is matching/topping Clair's aggregate scores right now. None of that's gonna matter since GoTY selection is a subjective crapshoot based on feelings and whimsy. Games with a refreshing new "it" factor tend to do well though, and Clair & Blue Prince both got that. In the end, GTA 6 will be a bloated disappointment we'll have to deal with being re-released ad nauseum through the PS8 gen, so just enjoy the rest of 2025's offerings.

GOTY at the game awards has really become about the story behind the game more so than its overall quality. Astrobot and BG3 had huge industry narratives behind them.

visually it's incredible but waiting to see more steak behind the sizzle. like i said was pretty lukewarm on 5, but RDR 2 is the best game they ever made, so guess we'll see where the narrative lands. sure the world and systems will be mint as always.

I don't understand how you were lukewarm on 5. EVERYTHING in 5 was better imo. I can't think of a single thing from scale, gameplay, plot, graphics, just everything was bigger and better.

I've hated everything Rockstar has made since San Andreas and 90% of it is all of it being drowned in shitty grounded realism because everyone had to show how super serious video games were now. 5 definitely improved on that front but it was still super lacking. Yes I am aware I'm in the minority on this.

There's a nostalgic feeling if going back to 3 with how simple it is and how funny Lazlo was, but actually playing it and yeah 5 is just the same but better in every way.

thought the plot was a huge step backwards from the stories Rockstar told in RDR1 and GTA IV. didn't give a shit about any of the characters really, the 3-protaganist structure was disjointed and rarely interacted in an interesting manner, Trevor especially was a boring caricature written like what a teenage boy thought was cool ten years ago.

everything else ya u right, but the story was straight up not good, and i'm a story gamer baby. wasn't an interesting concept, wasn't told well, characters were much less interesting than Niko and John. antagonists were super mid as well.
