Rumor Robert Downey Jr is interested in joining the cast for season 3 but only if his character is costumed/prosthetic make up/CGI. Well they need something to replace Baby Yoda, might as well bring in Iron Man.

So, finally watched this whole season.
Jesus fucking christ, THAT was Star Wars. I cried manly tears at the end it was such a great payoff.
Rumors going around that internally some people are pissed about how The Mandalorian ended...mainly because everyone is talking about the Luke Skywalker reveal and interested in that. The new 'High Republic' era launched without a peep really, and it seems the execs (In KK's camp mainly) are pissed at Filoni and Favreau. Seems some Disney execs didn't even know of the reveal either.
How does the reveal affect the High Republic? Totally different medium.
If they wanted the same impact, they should have released The Acolyte first...
Or
Nothing they’ve released about the high republic is interesting in the slightest. That could be part of it.
I mean, I understand the complaints to an extent, if interdepartmental communication is so bad that they don't know to plan the release to avoid something that will completely steal its thunder. Obviously they could have planned the rollout to not coincide with the ending of s2 and then it wouldn't matter what was in it, so there's blame all around.
It's basically that. The ones in charge of the 'High Republic' camp are upset that all the SW attention is on The Mandalorian/Luke reveal while their launch basically got zero attention. I got the first 'High Republic' book pre-ordered and delivered to me over a week ago. I've gone through it, and have to say...I was let down. I got the other two on pre-order but... I'm not holding out for anything good.
They were already facing an uphill battle with a new product line, essentially, and one that I personally hadn't seen many people ask for, then they get overshadowed by 17 Mando spinoff announcements and the return of Luke (allegedly) as a blindside, yeah I'd feel like they were just shitting on my hard work and not supporting us. The rumors, if true, certainly suggest a lack of cohesive leadership/brand management, which would doubtless be frustrating to work under.
Like I said, so far from what I have read from the 'High Republic' is just... bland. It's not bad so much as they tried to recreate the 'Old Republic' frame of SW but just missed on everything. Nothing exciting but not bad, just bland.
Supposedly (Rumor but one I can believe) is that once KK's contract is up this year, majority of SW creative control is going to Dave and Jon and others who actually have brought positive and hype results to the brand. I would be fine with a Kevin Feige type role for Dave and Jon over at SW so that while they may not directly have their hand in each series or storyline, it would have to be run by them to make sure it is up to standards to something they would do.
They're the same company as Marvel, why can't Star Wars get a brand coordinator like Hickman on all X-properties or Feige on the MCU.

Various rumblings I have seen are stating they thought they didn't need to do that with SW and it would carry on it's own, but they are finding out it cannot. Because of this, and seeing how awesome Filoni and Jon have been doing , is the reason there are rumors of them having Jon and Dave do a shared coordinator role like Feige does with Marvel. They may not be doing every single shred of material, but they would be the gate keepers and QC for all future SW films and series...which I would be totally fine with. TheMouse needs to throw a fuckton of money at those two and lock em down.
I have a hard time believing that an IP as big as Star Wars doesn’t have someone (or a team of someones) with complete oversight of all divisions. The whole “High Republic team is pissed, Kathleen Kennedy embarrassed!” stuff just sounds like more made up shit neckbeards who are still bitter about TLJ would spread to make themselves feel better.
They didn't though. I enjoyed the sequels for the most part, but there is absolutely no denying that each new movie had no idea what the previous one was supposed to be leading towards.
Yeah, that's kinda why I buy the rumors. They couldn't even pull off a cohesive three movie arc of mainline SW films, so this kind of friction between divisions seems very plausible to me.
The rumor did originate with wegotthiscovered so not a great site. I saw the article there a few days ago and there was little substance to it like most of what they put out.
Disney really does need to just put Filoni in charge though at this point. They tried having a group oversee star wars originally with the Lucas Story Group when they first bought it but that quickly faded into a group of nothing with only KK really doing anything.

Eh you know I don't give a fuck, that was amazing television and they should be ashamed they fucked up the movies. Fuck them.
This was was more or less my impression as well. I thought Kennedy was supposed to be the person overseeing the direction of the Star Wars franchise, she just didn't do a good job having a unified vision for its direction. Although, maybe that's more of a testament to Feige's vision and what he was able to for the MCU.
The show was nominated for a Golden Globe for best television drama series. I think that might be Star Wars first Golden globe nomination for a non-special effects category.
