Can’t wait to be suplexing yall with incineroar.
I understand the KH/Square limbo as such: Disney owns the characters, but SE determines how they're used outside the KH games.
What that really means when push comes to shove is that Disney has final say over everything, but they like making money in game sales so they cede creative control to SE for outside use.
I actually am a fan of how piranha plant looked. It's a pseudo Mario villain in a franchise that cant really add more villains besides Bowser to keep the theme going.
That's fucking awesome.
It was one of the most popular Rare IPs in Nintendo history at a point in time and was heavily requested. The fact that it isn't owned by Nintendo is completely irrelevant for several reasons:
1. Neither are Snake, Bayonetta, Cloud, etc.
2. Phil Spencer himself directly and publicly stated he wants to see Banjo in Smash and would gladly sign on to it.
I don't really care if he gets in either way, but he definitely warrants a spot more than some characters that did get in.
Brand death doesn't really matter either. When was the last Game & Watch game when Melee came out? Duck Hunt?
So I was looking at DLC fighters for Wii U/3DS and made a realization. With the exception of returning fighters, only 1 DLC character was a "Nintendo Property" -- Corrin. Everything else (Bayonetta/Cloud/Ryu) were all third-party. If this continues, then one of the 5 fighters will likely be the hero for FE Three Houses, and the remaining four are all candidates for third-party.
Hopeful Thinking:
Geno
Banjo
Byleth (FE3H)
Arthur (Ghosts n Goblins)
Something Dragon Quest
While it's not my personal pick, I wonder how likely Rayman is considering Nintendo has partnered directly with Ubisoft on a couple projects in the past couple years (Mario+Rabbids and Starlink).
I have personal doubts for another Capcom rep given we have 3 with MM, Ryu, and Ken. But not like that'll stop them. Namco doesn't have a rep other than Pac-Man and I feel like Lloyd from Symphonia is an easy choice, although there's certainly plenty else to draw upon than "another human with a sword"
My personal impossible never-gonna-happen hope was Hollow Knight but considering Shovel Knight only made Assist Trophy, I'd say he's lucky to even make it in as a Spirit.
Totally insane impossible tier galaxybrain picks: Wreck-it Ralph, Wolverine.
I'd vote for rabbids with the Kingdom Battle costumes to boot. That game was good af.
It’s gonna be birdo
I legitimately want to see a rabbid at this point for no other reason then to see the Smash community tear itself apart lol. As for DLC, while FE character would make sense with the history, they already have a LOT of representation. I wouldn't rule it out but I personally would like to see something more diverse that would bring new things to the game.
Doesn't mean anything, they just added another freaking pokemon and mario char. Which both have more chars than FE despite how many they've added over the years.
Just give me my DLC Geno and call it a day.
Kaslow, dont forget Mewtwo was technically dlc but was given away to people who bought both versions.
In thinking about it more, Fire Emblem is due to release late next year. That almost screams Edelgard being the 4th or 5th DLC character.
I don't think he did, Mewtwo was a returning fighter like Roy and Lucas.
You mean the self inserts (Corrin, Robin) or the MC themselves (Awakeing - Chrom, Fates - Corrin)?
Granted any Three Houses rep may depend on how the game shakes out, and if we have a self insert. Edelgard to me is the one garnering most of the fan attention right now.
Edit: In rewatching the trailer, I guess you're right in that it could be Byleth (that green/blue haired guy). Really kind of a shame to not include an axe lord. Either way, that 4th or 5th DLC slot is prime for FE.
Edit2: Looks like Mii Fighter costumes DO NOT deconfirm any characters. Chrom costume was spotted as buyable. Rex's viability for DLC takes a HUGE jump with that.
