Serious question. Is FE 3 Houses or whatever it's called actually pretty good? What kind of gameplay is it? Sort of tactical-RPG like Valkyria Chronicles? It has a stupid big following on reddit and I see FE memes all the time +_+

I think it was a fair compromise between the more Classic FE entries and the newer Awakening/Fates. No real focus on being a eugenics simulator, a story similar to Genealogy of Holy War with a few twists, great music, some novel changes to the class/combat systems, and some very meme-ey (but quite honestly, pure and endearing) characters. More Persona time management in Fire Emblem than anything else. Solid B+ to A- depending on how starved you were for a good post 'Fates' Fire Emblem.

It's tile based tactical combat like you would expect in a Fire Emblem game. Not quite like Valkyria Chronicles with free movement, but similar elements with regard to being closer makes ranged units more accurate, abilities do more damage versus some classes than others, etc.

So I should be assuming you wanted more Persona reps? What kind of logic is that?

Theres been relevant FE characters added with each game. Chrom being the exception as part of Robin's Final Smash and then as an echo fighter. With Three Houses being so close to Smash's original release development wise, everyone *should* have figured out that Byleth or Edelgard was Thanos level inevitable.

I never said I was excited about it, but I expected it to happen somewhere in however many DLC slots Sakurai wanted to do.

At least Byleth has some originality and isn't Black Marth like most of the other FE entrants. Three Houses was a good game; I'm much more excited about 11 tracks of great music being added for what looks to be a good battlefield stage for tournaments.

Acting like people don't have a right to be disappointed about another FE duder in a paid season pass that actually has a different set of interesting characters.

Joker is amazing, Hero is great fun, B&K is a fan favourite and Terry is a huge surprise. All characters from different series that never had representation in Smash before.

And now, introducing DLC character 5! It's...oh the same shit we've had before. Disappointing way to end it. If they were smart they would have started with this bullshit and ended with something actually surprising that might excite people for the next stage of season pass characters.

And you also expect most people to follow smash, switch games (including series they might not be interested in) in order to stalker zone in on exactly what character it is? Sounds reasonable.

Add in that it will likely be 6+ months until we even hear about the next character for Fighter Pass 2, it's understandable why people are disappointed. If they had Byleth in the middle, and ended with Banjo or Terry the sting probably wouldn't be so bad.

it's p dang good. turn-based tactical RPG in the vein of FFT, Tactics Ogre, X-Com II, etc, married to a Persona-ish social simulator wherein you build the team you take into combat. core gameplay is the traditional meaty melange of magic + rock-paper-scissors weapon systems + class customization, the characterization and story keep you invested and lend import to why you are running behind dudes to make a percentage based attack with your axe. 4/5 tragic anime backstories.

Byleth already looks and plays like trash according to the video, there’s so much counterplay against him/her i can already see. I would have an easy time with ZSS against Byleth.

Also, i’m prolly the only one who didn’t like 3 houses, i quit on ch 17 with golden deer, i liked some characters, but the persona aspect shoulda been left to persona, i wasn’t a fan of it. Also the lack of the weapon triangle kinda killed it for me too.

Edit: wonder if this is maybe why the next pass is 6 instead of 5. Nintendo demanded Byleth and caused the original 5th to get pushed to the next round, and they decided to instead frame it as them doing is a favor by giving an extra character.
