I get why they did it. Minecraft is stupidly popular and will get a ton of kids to get parents to buy them smash + dlc.

Yeah, if anything that costume would pretty much guarantee that leak was true, which helps boost the viability of Geno...

I haven't played Smash since Brawl, but I keep up on it since it's become effectively a celebration of video games, minus FE characters. Why all the hate for Steve? Looks like he's got a very different play style. Reaches a very different audience, that's not a bad thing.

My post frustration thought is that Nintendo needed a reason to sell a fighters pass that may have been lagging a bit in sales with just Min Min on it. Sakurai has stated that development has not been stalled by Covid, but that doesn't mean release order has not been reorganized or changed.

I'm wondering if Steve wasn't intended to be 9 or later, but provided Nintendo an opportunity to boost the fighters pass sales after Min Min with a property that would bring in a ton of money now. The extended delay with E3 cancelled was Sakurai's team focusing on getting Steve working earlier than intended after being approached by Nintendo, all the while still working on the originally intended fighter 7 and 8.

Typical "It's not what I wanted" syndrome. People keep hyping themselves up thinking their character would get in because it's a popular choice, clinging to rumors, etc.

Eh. I never gave a shit about Minecraft, but I get it. Its sold a gajillion copies and was created by an asshole. That's a one-two punch for getting into what has basically become a museum of gaming history that allows you to punch one another with swords.

What surprised me is that it wasn't Crash given the imminent release of his newest game. Its not like Minecraft is coming out with anything right now, so the timing is off, but I always expected Crash/Steve/Some shooter guy to make it in before all was said and done. Now we have at least 1.

Okay i know its not what ya'll wanted but I watched the reveal trailer and ya'll are being unreasonable. Steve looks unique to play and extremely faithful to its original game with the building mechanics alone, let alone all the other small details, and has a cute charm to it, its got all the hallmarks to a good addition to the roster with the only hanging up being its not your favorite Video game Waifu.

Like damn dudes, its a popular video game and while you may not personally understand or enjoy it, this is literally a fighting game about popular video game characters, not all of them are going to be for 30 something neckbeards, occasionally you're going to get a fighter that appeals to a younger demographic, and theres nothing wrong with that. If the leaks are true, you'll just have to wait a bit longer.

That was my point earlier. It's really hard to tell in this case whether that was Sakurai joking around, a la "Good boys and girls" comments of if he was really frustrated at this either forced or earlier than intended inclusion and got his digs in best he could.

I'm perfectly fine with Steve and Minecraft being included. It does make sense for "Smash" as a museum concept. And this will certainly sell a pass whose main draw was Min Min up until now. He looks like he will play as a quirky mix between Pac Man and G&W.

Outside of Geno frustrations, I'm just bunched up about the lack of communication and then this drops. Hopefully this marks the end of that drought and we go back to a regular schedule.
