There was little logic involved in the initial decision. Alan Horn went over everyone's heads and overreacted to the initial report, firing Gunn before even apparently talking to anyone at Marvel. Now everyone involved has been having to play catch up.

And it's not like Disney rehiring him would be all that much more hypocritical then what they've been doing with John Lasseter.

Exactly. "Who" brought the tweets to public attention doesn't end up mattering at all once "Gunn = pedo man-child" enters into the consciousness of the masses. Fans of the franchise and people who care to look into the facts of the accusation won't condemn Gunn for what he did years ago, but the masses are stupid and don't consider all of the facts before committing the flavor of the week attackee to eternal condemnation for "that thing he did, probably, that everyone is talking about". It's too easy for us to file someone we don't know personally into a neat box, and we all do it all the time.

Disney is the kind of company name a parent will buy anything it's stamped on for their child, without having to look at what they're actually buying. This is a status quo Disney would certainly like to keep. Normally, Disney will never jeopardize its brand name for one person whose name is being dragged through the mud. Being even marginally associated with Gunn right now has a small but nonzero chance to harm Disney's name brand, which is their most valuable asset by a large margin. Considering that, I totally understand the initial kneejerk reaction to just dump him and everything to do with his "scandal". Not that it was the right thing to do, but sitting on it while a decision was made would have probably caused some contention among the small percentage of people who do have a problem with this "scandal".

Savages was one of my favorite things because I was just about the age when that movie came out to start realizing what edgy as fuck lyrics were lol

Pocahontas was a dumpster fire of a movie when looked at from the angle of an attempt to tell a historical story and preserve a piece of Native culture, but as far as a "family film" it was innocuous enough that my parents both liked it and bought me all the toys and gizmos from it.

I actually learned recently (from a book called "The Secret Token" about the lost Roanoke colony) that the overall historical record of what happened to John Smith didn't corroborate with his version of events. He reported it the right way, and later he reported it again in a fantastical way that portrayed him as a romantic hero and that's the version Disney used, I assume because there isn't really a Disney movie in the original "true" version of events :D

But tentatively Marvel will still use Gunn's script so he will still be afforded a writing credit. inb4 the right goes REEEEEEE that he's still technically involved in GotG3 and they have to write a whole new screenplay from scratch delaying the movie til 2022 fucking up the plan for the cinemaverse
