US to impose a 25% tariff on 1300 Chinese imports.
List - https://ustr.gov/sites/default/files...ses/301FRN.pdf
isn't China like the most powerful industrialized nation in the world right now? should we really be starting a trade war with them?
I'm not well-educated on these things so maybe I'm off base
Going through the list of what is being tariffed and found this;
Human blood; animal blood prepared for therapeutic, prophylactic, diagnostic uses; toxins, cultures of micro-organisms nesoi & like products

DJ Gribbin, the man behind Trump's infrastructure plan, is leaving the team for new opportunities.
I forget where I heard it, but IIRC the US is a major exporter of human blood. Something something Saudi Arabia of blood.
economic might is a fairly difficult thing to measure and while different metrics suggest different loci of it the United States is still regarded as a power nonpareil, but China is now the world's largest trading nation, our #1 import partner, and our #3 export partner. because trade is mutually beneficial impediments to such is mutually destructive. that is to say trade wars are not wars anyone wins, particularly between such intricately linked economies. we can wound one another only at the cost of wounding ourselves. this development is in the best interests of neither country.
I knew you would reply and reply well and you did these things and I am grateful for AG thx
Nah more than likely they're gonna build encampments to keep illegals detained until they get expelled into whatever part of south america america decides.
Basically japanese internment camps immigration edition.
wut?
Guessing it's a "We have a huge trade deficit, who cares if we get hit with tariffs!" sort of thing.
He's wrong of course, but that's never stopped the tweet machine before.

Senior aides convince Trump to keep US troops in Syria.
A senior administration official told NBC News that the president had agreed at a meeting on Tuesday to keep troops in Syria for an undetermined period, but "wasn't thrilled about it, to say the least".
"The president made his displeasure clear about any kind of long-term presence in Syria," the official added.
Ann Coulter gonna flip

I don't keep up with all this crap because its a new idiot move every day, but doesn't China own a huge amount of the U.S's debt? How could this impact all the stupid trade wars stuff Trump is instigating?
Well we're both fucked if China were to sell. It would be a loss for both sides.
We wouldn't be fucked at all. Neither would they. This is a misconception due to the way that the issue is reported on.
The vast majority of UST are owned by (shockingly) the US. 30% or more is owned by the US Govt itself via surplus purchasing (A government bureau runs a surplus, buys UST with it, essentially putting the money back into the government for other uses. These are redeemed for cash very infrequently .
of the other 60%ish. Foreign entities own about 40-50%. Of that 40-50% (Call it 30% actualized), China owns about 1/6th as of this morning.
So they actually own, outright, 5% of the US treasury market. While it would roil the markets to have that entire chunk sold off, the market would easily bear it given the incredible liquidity in government paper.
Wouldn't China be selling at a loss if they did decide to sell?
Thanks for the input. I was just curious
