wages are not stagnant.
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-u...-idUSKBN1I508JAverage hourly earnings rose four cents, or 0.1 percent, last month after gaining 0.2 percent in March. That left the annual increase in average hourly earnings at 2.6 percent.
While average hourly earnings have suggested only a gradual increase in wage inflation, other measures have been more robust. The Employment Cost Index (ECI), widely viewed by policymakers and economists as one of the better measures of labor market slack, increased solidly in the first quarter.
The ECI report showed wages rising at their fastest pace in 11 years during the period.
and the president's impact on the economy is indeed overstated, but they are credited or blamed for it regardless, as even the most cursory study of political history would display.
the participation rate has been basically stagnant since 2014, hovering around 62.5%, but that in itself represents something of a victory with the baby boomer generation phasing out of the work force. as the retirement rate spikes the long-term labor force participation rate is trending downwards and will continue to do so as America experiences the graying demographic shift already extant in places like Japan and Germany.
2.6% year over year wage growth is pretty weak tea - you know that number isn't inflation adjusted right? So it's really about a 0.6% yearly wage growth (2017 inflation was 2.1%, 2018 so far is 1.9%).
We routinely had 4%+ wage growth in the mid 2000s and 5+% wage growth in the late 1990s.
2.6% is pretty close to stagnant.

indeed it is and indeed we did, tho i wouldn't say wage growth mildly outpacing inflation is stagnation, stagnant wage growth leads to a loss in purchasing power as the result of inflation, but i understand your measure.
but the underlying thrust remains, no one credible can credibly look at the economy and fail to see that it is stronger today than it has been since pre-Great Recession, and it is extremely unusual for a president presiding over a decade-best economy to still be so reviled.
Yep, that's why you want to look at the "prime-age work force participation rate" - showing participation of people aged 25-54 so you aren't seeing the demographic imbalances towards retiring boomers.
It's at 82.0% right now, up from a low of 80.7% in 2014, but below the high-82.Xs/83s in the mid 2000s or the all-time high of 84.6% in 1999. And this is why we aren't seeing much wage growth, the economy is still pulling marginal workers off the sidelines as opposed to having to bid up wages to get workers.

Well, once again we've said that the wage gap issue has not been solved, so the job rates has had little effect on people actually feeling like they can overcome the seemingly insurmountable problems currently facing a lot of Americans.
Not only that, but these same economic metrics were panned off as being lies and unreliable when republicans didn't want to give credit to Obama for fixing the economy.
And as said before - if anything Trump is responsible for impeding the economy. He's also been a living daily disaster in office.
I'm just shocked that you're shocked he's so unpopular.
Absolutely. If Trump simply just..ok well if Trump didn't choose to surround himself with massively corrupt criminals and didn't have an entire legion of skeletons in his own closet...and just crowed about economic numbers and destroying ISIS all day he should be well north of 50% approval.
It's almost like people can just skew these VERY generalized statistics to suit their arguments.
the man could cure cancer and I swear there would be a good 25% of people that would somehow find fault
it obviously has a lot to do with his personality and character but the 24/7/365 foaming at the mouth drumpf hate mongering thats leaked into every single facet of media, particularly social, certainly plays a role I think
perhaps in 20 years peeps will look through the same rose colored glasses as they now do with GWB
The only ones who will be looking through those glasses are the idiots that voted for him. I highly doubt he will get the GWB treatment ( I assume GWB jr). Bush Jr. was actually a nice person...just extremely dim witted. Trump on the other hand...is nothing but a narcissistic asshole who has so many skeletons in the closet it makes the family mob closets look clean.
Dim-witted. ROFL.
I love that he still has that view from some people.
This is a fucking moronic statement because nothing the Trump admin is doing is going to help produce a cure.
Look at the fucking blow up over Michelle Wolf and this isn't true as well.
You know this will happen because in twenty years Dr. Johnnazipedophile Smith will be president at the rate the republican party is decaying.
Trump wasn't late, your watch is fast. All your watches are fast. This clock is wrong. All these accusations of being late are fake news. WITCH HUNT! Sad.
W was either the worst or the second worst president of the post-war era and the recent rehabilitation of his image deeply wounds my soul
