Carter's biggest issue was he gave a speech calling on Americans to take the blame for their own problems, fortunately Reagan appeared and reminded us that it's all always somebody else's fault, usually the poors.

Every "survey of presidential scholars" since W's term ended have placed W below Carter. A number of them have Bush below Nixon, but the aggregate places Bush just one slot above Nixon.

any president would have invaded Afghanistan, Al Gore would not have invaded Iraq. it is likewise difficult to imagine his father, Reagan, Clinton, or Obama invading Iraq following a terrorist attack from an organization based out of Afghanistan.

i just don't think anyone with a serious historical understanding and without political bias would place any president above Washington. Lincoln is the only possible counter. FDR gets a lot of Greatest Generation nostalgia glow and as the father of liberaldom is venerated far above his actual accomplishments despite his many failures, despite his deeply unconstitutional and authoritarian nature.
