Que? Jimmy Carter was behind the Camp David Accords, possibly the only real advancement in the Middle East peace process of the last century. He made massive changes to the way government officials were appointed, and in the wake of Watergate took steps to limit gifts and prevent people from walking right into big lobbying jobs, plus did a lot to root out corruption and all the government mismanagement people like to decry. Carter established the Department of Education AND the Department of Energy and used tax dollars to fund sending people to college and create incentives for solar power. If Reagan had a leg to stand on in taking on the Soviet Union, it's because Carter was the one who moved missiles into Europe, and also started a massive push for human rights to turn the world off to Communism. Not to mention that we're all talking about how great Trump's economic numbers are and all he has to do is sit back and enjoy it without actually having done anything to cause it, when Carter was the one who finally tackled the massive inflation that had plagued his predecessors despite how unpopular the increased interest rates made him. Carter's Presidency was the Presidency of a man who was never satisfied and also didn't do politics so he was never happy with compromise or half-measures and more often than not made himself look like a loser even when he got some of what he wanted. He had no defense against a smiling, Make America Great Again, everything will be alright, we're all gonna be winners Reagan.
Also goes without saying that Carter is probably one of the greatest after-Presidency Presidents we've ever had.
Nixon ended the draft, worked to stop proliferation of both nuclear and conventional arms, established relations with China AND new relations with the Middle East to prevent the spread of Soviet influence, created the EPA, made Title IX of the Civil Rights Act the law, oversaw desegregation of schools in the south, lowered the voting age to 18, signed the Paris Peace Accords, and, since Fiye is apparently taking things at face value today, made the first major effort at funding research toward curing cancer. Was he also a spectacularly shitty human being who hated the media, universities, Jews and blacks, and secretly sabotaged LBJ's peace talks in Vietnam, resulting in the aforementioned hundreds of thousands of deaths before he ultimately ended them, along almost identical lines of the proposal Johnson had created? Yes. Did he mastermind the Watergate break-in because he was trying to sabotage the Democratic party? Also yes.
Also, following his resignation and a period of self-imposed exile, Nixon did return to the public eye and spent his final years performing massively important diplomatic work with China.
Neither of these guys were bad Presidents. Nixon did a lot to erode faith in the office and, yes, Vietnam is a huge strike against him and that alone is grounds to knock him into I'd say the Top 10 of worst Presidents, but he was also quite good at his job.
Also Reagan was shit.
Yeah I do, because the emphasis there was on all the positive work he did for the nation as President in spite of what flawed human he was, don't tell me what I can and can't do you commie
My feelings on how much of a qualifier his failings place on his accomplishments should have been clear with the conclusion of "he'd be in the top 10 of worst ever."
those aren't "personal failings"secretly sabotaged LBJ's peace talks in Vietnam, resulting in the aforementioned hundreds of thousands of deaths before he ultimately ended them, along almost identical lines of the proposal Johnson had created? Yes. Did he mastermind the Watergate break-in because he was trying to sabotage the Democratic party?
In a world of Reconstruction-era Andrew Johnson, James Buchanan, Wubya, Depression-era Herbert Hoover, John Tyler, Millard Fillmore's Fugitive Slave Act, Warren Harding's entire administration, and Ronald Reagan -
....RRRRRREEEEEAAAAGAAAAAAANNNNNN!
...it's hard to say Nixon isn't closer to 8 or 9 than he is 1 or 2.
James Buchanan is the worst President ever.
You can't say Dallas doesn't love you, Mr. President.
this must be how Tony and Steve felt about the Sokovia Accords
DON'T YOU PUT THAT ON ME FAM DON'T YOU DARE
