ok so the Europeans/Chinese/Russians are probably going to try to stay in this deal, they're larger trading partners with Iran than we are. If so, Iran will probably not restart their nuke program. However, to the extent that our reimposed sanctions hurt Iran, it leaves them with a weakened position to fund terrorism/improve their military/rockets/etc. - so we're hurting Iran and Iran still doesn't get nukes.

Now, what I don't understand is (if this is the rationale) why not just stay in the deal but impose new sanctions because of their funding of Hezbollah/Houthis/testing new missiles, and claim (somewhat plausibly) that it has nothing to do with the nuclear deal and you're just punishing them for other stuff.

Didn't Giuliani also imply that Cohen had paid off other women on Trump's behalf? I had assumed that was further in the past, but maybe the $500k was reimbursing more than just the one payoff to Daniels.

I share your skepticism, but it's not entirely outside the realm of possibility.

Not exactly, Guiliani was asked if Cohen paid off other women, Guiliani said not to my knowledge but he would have if there were.

Ok, that's not EXACTLY what Avenatti is saying - he's just pointing out that after the 130k was sent to Daniels, 500k in total transfers were made from Vekselberg to the same account in the year afterwards.

Remember, Cohen and the first Stephanie Clifford attorney essentially colluded payoffs and had extensive emails and texts between the two. Avenatti has likely seen at least some of those emails and texts.
