i just grabbed a crunchyroll account and am generally not the biggest on anime but remember loving Wing as a young child. hear it doesn't hold up well but where would yall suggest one enter the Gundam universe? fewest anime tropes best writing possible s'il vous plaît. most irl friends say just hit the latest with Mercury or Iron-Blooded Ophans if i wanna be sad (generally yes).

IBO is good. Gritty and kind of realistic in a savage way (especially how the series ends). It's a good watch. But yeah, big sad at times.

I never actually finished Mercury. I should get around to that. I think I had like 6 or 7 episodes left

Mercury was kinda disappointing in the end, but a decent enough watch I guess, IBO is definitely worth it.

Gundam Unicorn is great even if you don't fully get what's all going on. It's part of the UC timeline which I recommend going through if you're in a mecha mood. Unicorn's OST is one of Hiroyuki Sawano's (Attack on Titan composer) best.

00 Gundam is great. The 2nd season kind of gets a little rough but it's still good. Don't bother with the movie. IBO is top-tier imo and gundam unicorn has some incredible fights/animation but the storyline can be a little rough because of how much lore there is with everything they're talking about. It's not bad but it's just major info dumps from what I remember

Mercury has way too many tropes. Wing is still good. IBO is amazing.

Agreed on Wing. Feels pretty evergreen to me. IBO feels similar in that regard, but is still young by comparison.
