I agree I think its hilarious how people get offended at the word "Cis", ain't nothing wrong with the word. but In case the context has been forgotten here, this conversation started cause a guy asked not to be referred to as a Cis and the response was to call him stuff like "Cissy". When it goes from just being a normal word to an insult is where I think the problem is. As hilariously stupid as it is, there's a parallel between calling someone a Cissy and calling someone a Tranny, both are intended as insults, my only argument has been its wrong to do either, not that the word Cis is bad, nor that the situation didn't make me laugh >_>.

No one has been murdered for being a cissy. Plenty of people are abused, harassed, assaulted, fired, raped and murdered for being a "tranny". So there's levels to it.

And to wrap this back around the "the thread subject" Elon Musk took over Twitter saying he is a "Free speech absolutist" and the very same people who act like Cis is an insult/slur are the same people who have no issue using words meant to hurt others and call it 'free speech'. and Negro means "Black" in spanish, doesn't mean it can't be used with hateful intent. However, just like Negro, I don't think the word itself is hateful, its part of the spanish language and was only hatefully adopted by, mostly, non-spanish speakers, its only that it can be used with hateful intent, which is what I'd object too in any scenario hence this topic.

I feel the need to reiterate that I personally don't find any insult in the word, and don't at all mind it being used how its suppose to be used, as outlined by Mert here. Its a perfectly normal word, and Elon is a nutjob for labeling it a slur.

Self-interest is an ontological condition of humanity.

The success of movements for equality depend upon people being able to tap into other people's sympathy. The reason non-violence is key to successful movements isn't because violence isn't justified; it's because violence makes people on the sidelines uncomfortable, and then those people stop identifying with the movements.

When the other side gets to play victim like this and bellyache about their mistreatment, that's how they reroute sympathy to their side.

Remember the rioting after MLK + RFK assassinations is how Nixon was able to cultivate white fright and win the election.

You can whine about why "respectability" politics is bad all you want, but the fact is that you won't get anywhere without it. Public recognition, and subsequent legal codification, of rights and protections depends upon the majority coming to your side. And that is about being able to hijack peoples' sympathy response.
